2020 has not been easy on most and to cap it off today I learn my good friend Roy M. Wallack passed yesterday. I'm gutted. A unique man/friend Roy brought such joy. RIP Roy
The attached video from the 2008 WSC Hall of Fame shows Roy in amazing form.

Lance Armstrong, tomorrow Ryan Correy turns 35... he has stage 4 colon cancer a diagnosis he received just days after winning the 2017 24 Hours of Adrenalin event in the solo category. He is a remarkable human being and I'm asking that you and the boys dedicate a lap each with Ryan in mind. If possible ask Todd Shadow to give him a shout out. Last week on Valentines days Ryan and his new wife Sarah Hornby learned discouraging news that his cancer has continued to advance on all fronts - colon, liver, lymph nodes and now tumours in his lungs. This week you and the boys get to play, Ryan just finished round 9 of chemo. Please do what you can to help shed light on Ryan and Sarah's situation... www.ryancorrey.com Thanks for your support Stuart Dorland Founder 24HOA 1994 - 2018. WEDU 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo

With winter here, time on the trainer requires some visual help... "Icarus" is a very interesting documentary, free to those with Netflix. Once you have watched it, check out the Rich Roll podcast as the filmmaker talks about the amazing journey.
When filmmaker Bryan Fogel sets out to uncover the truth about doping in sports, a chance meeting with a Russian scientist transforms his story from a personal experiment into a geopolitical thriller. Dirty urine, unexplained death and Olympic gold are all part of the exposure of the biggest scandal in sports history.
Watch the movie first!

Really sad to hear this news. The Bear Hostel has been one of the few affordable places over the past five years for our crew. http://www.thecragandcanyon.ca/2017/08/29/hostel-bear-to-be-put-down
Hostel Bear to be put down
The Hostel Bear in Canmore, known for its cheap accommodation and central location, will officially close its doors at the end of September, eliminating the last low-cost accommodation in town.

24HOA Permit update: Dated July 18th from Steve Donelon

Kick it's ass Ryan... wandering down a local street in Victoria a couple years ago I walked into the local Patagonia Victoria store and noticed a seating area and grabbed a book called "A Purpose Ridden" , 20 minutes later I was walking home inspired, having purchased the book. After reading the book I reached out to author Ryan Correy to connect. A few months later I had the opportunity to meet Ryan & his then fiancé Sara at the Edmonton Bike Show. I found Ryan to be very open to discussing many burning questions I had from reading his book and left having not only a real appreciation for Ryan's athletic achievements but maybe even more his willingness to be so open and raw about his journey.
Fast forward only two weekends ago to the 24HOA, in which Ryan participated and won his Solo category... Ryan having moved to Canmore met me for a coffee Beamer's Coffee Bar Tuesday after the event. Unfortunately our time was brief. I now have become aware of what has been going on in Ryan's life... I think it's best to allow Ryan to explain it from his weekly podcast.
A new and unexpected endurance test begins...

What I can say is that Ryan is an incredible human being and has all the tools to fight this next endurance chapter. We are in your corner Ryan and look forward to watching you defend your solo title in 2018. - Stuart

Posting re-CO and briefing documents
We’ve got a few questions.
Another curious event happened on July 25th at our 2017 – 24 HOA event debrief with Conservation Officer Arthur Hughes and Area Manager Michael Roycroft, from the CNCPP. This meeting is meant to be ‘high-level’ with a promise for detailed information to follow. Here’s some troubling background. In the 2016 debrief meeting, on July 19th, 2016 the Conversation Officer Andy Rees, started the meeting with a statement that said there where 176 infractions sited at the event. He then gave 6 examples. Surprised by this large number and having never, in 20 years, heard numbers like this, we asked for the officer’s notes. His response was NO and if we wanted his notes we would need to go through the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA). Curious? Confusing? Troubling?
At this year’s debrief meeting, when asked for Mr. Hughes and Mr. Roycroft’s notes so that we could review and proactively look to see how we would best address any concerns, we received the same response as we had in 2016’s debrief meeting…. NO. Just as an fyi, we did go to the FOIA last year, paid the fee and requested the notes online on July 20th, 2016 and received the following 6 pages of completely redacted information on November 11, 2016.
As the organizer, how are we able to improve or put systems in place to mitigate any issues, with THIS type of feedback? The Alberta Park’s website lists that one of the roles of the Conservation Officer is to mitigate the human and wildlife interaction through “public wildlife education programs”. What better avenue would they have to educate the public then informing us of potential issues and letting us address this with the participants and volunteers of this large mountain biking event? The response two years in a row, leads you to believe that this is NOT their role. Or at least, it is not the role that they would like to exercise with the 24 Hours of Adrenalin.
What is the role of the Conservation Officer?
