Congratulations to Addie and Eve MacDougall who had a great weekend with the U23 Whitecaps in Nova Scotia.
The team had a small roster for the weekend so the girls played a lot, and played well. Eve pitched, and Addie caught in all 5 games. In the end the team just ran out of gas in the finals against a very strong Dartmouth team.
Both girls had their best performance on Sunday morning in the semi finals vs the Blackbears. Eve got the start pitching (after throwing a complete game win on Saturday night) and pitched into the 6th. She left the game with her team leading 5-2. The defense was excellent behind her. Addie caught the whole game and her pitch calling was excellent, but it was her batting that really stood out. Early in the game she had an RBI double. And in the bottom of the 6th she came up with the bases loaded and hit a triple to blow the game open. She hit it well over 200’ down the left field line. Unfortunately for her they were playing on a bigger field so it stayed on the park. She finished the game with 4 RBIs.
Lastly, thanks to the u23 girls and coaches for welcoming the Bombers girls. They learned a lot watching and playing with so many talented girls.

Congratulations to Bombers D’Arcie Gallant and Johanna Gill who played a big role helping their u17 Riptide team win the Summerside Showdown this weekend.
These ladies played excellent ball all weekend through their 5 games, but they saved their best for the final game.
D’Arcie pitched 3 innings and held Stratford to only 1 run, while Johanna was a rock behind the plate and caught the full game. Both girls contributed to the offense as well collecting two hits a piece and scoring 4 runs between them for their Riptide squad.
Keep up the great work ladies!!

Good luck to our Bombers players who are competing in the U17 division at the Summerside Showdown this weekend.

Bombers wrapped up our first tournament on Canada Day. The girls wore their white uniforms for the first time, and were up early to put on Canada tattoos.
Game # 4 was a very good game against a team from Connecticut that went the distance and we came up short with a loss. Game #5 was against a team from Massachusetts and the girls got the first ever Bombers win by scoring 5 runs in the 7th inning.
Highlights from the day:
Eve MacDougall went 2/3 in game #4 which included a first inning triple that drove in D’Arcie Gallant (who led off the game with a walk just like she did in game # 3)
On the defensive side Shaye Fleming and D’Arcie Gallant shared the pitching duties and held Connecticut to mostly soft contact. Once again the defence was tight. On a side note, after seeing that it took two games to knock the rust off, we realized that it would have been helpful to play a series of exhibition games before going to the USA.
On the final day Brynn Kiley played an excellent 2nd base. She made the play on everything that was hit to her, got the lead runner several times, and just missed turning a double play. Brynn also dropped down the first ever Bombers’ bunt. It was almost perfect!! Unfortunately it rolled foul at the last second (and Brynn was already at first).
The final game provided a perfect ending to an excellent tournament. Brooke MacBeth took the mound and pitched 4 excellent innings. D’Arcie Gallant finished the game pitching 2 scoreless innings.
Johanna Gill played Centre field and shocked the opposing team with her cannon for an arm. On two different occasions she caught a fly ball in centre and threw a strike to home plate to prevent the runner on third from scoring.
Abigail Taylor got to show off her speed. After a lot of extra work in the batting cage she hit a fly ball to the opposite field that she stretched into a double.
The final inning was an excellent offensive display. We scored 5 runs on singles by Payton, Morgan, Addie, Johanna & D’Arcie, and a 2 run double by Emma Balderston.
It was a perfect ending. We had two rough losses to start the tournament, followed by two really competitive losses in games 3 and 4, and we finished with a final inning comeback win in game 5.
Can’t wait to see what the ladies can do at our next tournament in Maine in early August.

Rhode Island Game #2 and #3 Highlights:
On the second day of our tournament our games were played at Johnson and Wales College. The field was not quite as nice as the field at Brown University, but it was certainly one of the best fields we’ve seen. The infield was perfect, and the grass in the outfield was like a golf course.
We lost our first game of the day against the Maine Thunder. It was a tough game, but there were still a couple of high points.
On the offensive side D’Arcie Gallant led off the game with a walk, followed by a single by Addie MacDougall. Morgan Norquay stepped up with two runners on, and after falling behind 0-2 she battled back and hit a towering shot to the opposite field over the right fielder’s head. Her double drove in two runs and put the Bombers on the board first.
Defensively, Addie MacDougall shut down the run game by throwing out a runner in the first, and Morgan Norquay showed off her arm by throwing out a runner at third from deep in the outfield.
Game 3 against Rox 16 is when things started to turn around for the Bombers. Although we lost in the bottom of the final inning the defence was tight, and the offense came alive. The other team deserves credit for battling and executing.
D’Arcie Gallant led the way offensively with a couple of hits, an RBI and two stolen bases. Payton McNally worked a couple of walks and scored a couple of runs, while Emma Balderston and Brooke MacBeth also chipped in with base hits.
The offensive highlight of the game was a 15 pitch at bat by Addie MacDougall. Addie fouled off 12 pitches (putting 10
out of play) before winning the battle on the 15th pitch by hitting a line drive double
to left field that drove in 2 runs.
On the defensive side there are too many positives to highlight. There was only 1 error in the game, and the girls made all the right plays (getting lead runners, etc) and played technically sound softball.
We all left the field in a great mood (players, coaches and parents), and it didn’t take long to get cleaned up and head to Target, Plato’s Closet, the mall, and out for dinner.

Now that we are all back home we are sharing some game photos and stories.
Game #1 was played at Brown University’s Softball Field. We lost to an exceptional team; the 16U Storm Academy Fastpitch (eventual tournament champs).
Payton McNally led things off in the top of the first inning with the first ever Bombers hit. A line drive up the middle for a single. She stole second easily with her above average speed, and eventually scored on a deep sac fly hit by Addie MacDougall.
The first inning was a bit of an adventure on the defensive side. Some nerves, some rust, and a very good opponent led to numerous runs against.
Things settled down from that point on. Eve MacDougall entered the game in the 2nd inning and pitched 3 clean innings (not hits, no walks, no runs allowed). The team was solid behind her and made their plays. Eve also chipped in offensively going 2/2 at the plate with two singles and a stolen base.
Bombers hit well. In five innings we only had 4 strikeouts. Lots of hard hit balls in play, but the Storm’s defense was exceptional. In the end the early deficit was too much to overcome.
Coaches, players and families were able to spend some time on the field after the game taking pictures, and it didn’t take long to put the loss behind us. Everyone spent some time touring the campus and shopping. An Ivy League campus is really something to see.

That’s a wrap on an unbelievable first Bombers weekend in Rhode Island! The girls battled hard in all 5 games and found a well deserved win in our final game.
We were able to get one final picture of the Bombers family before everyone heads home!
