Once a barn rat, always a barn rat. I appreciate all my years of hard work (and working “for free”) to get all the experience I have, both in and out of the saddle!

Savvy Saturday!

Just a reminder that with the cold front coming time spent with your horse may have to look a little different! Our doctors recommend avoiding riding or strenuous exercise if the temperatures are below -18 (or when you can see your breath in an indoor arena!). Working your horse at these temperatures can cause damage to their lungs and cause chills if they get sweaty. Alternative activities include leisurely hand walks to keep them (and their guts!) moving or working on ground manners!

Just two sisters who both have a passion for horses. Great lessons today with these two girls! Butterscotch was her perfect self, and the dogs felt they needed to be part of the action too. 😉 Thanks to their mom Jess for taking these pictures!

Yesterday we had to say a sudden goodbye to our lovely barn cat boots.

After noticing she wasn’t breathing normally, I took her to the vet to discover she had fluid around both of her lungs, and a tumour on one of them. It comforts me to know what was wrong and that she didn’t suffer. Huge thank you goes to my friend Megan and the staff at Elgin Animal Hospital for getting us in last minute on a Friday evening.

Boots was the Walmart Greeter when we first came to see the farm. She loved everyone, loved attention, and was good at her barn kitty duties. It’s going to be hard to find a cat that compares to her.
