Maybe your yoga practice isnât working⌠somewhere along the way we reduced yoga to stretching. So if youâve been practicing for years and still:
⢠hate yourself
⢠ignore your needs
⢠judge your body
⢠avoid your feelings
⢠abandon yourself
It might be time to ask a difficult question:
Are you practicing yoga?
Or are you just doing asana?
The poses are beautiful, but they were never meant to be the entire practice. The real work begins when we start applying yoga off the mat.
The other seven limbs matter.
A lot.
đ Whatâs one thing yoga has taught you OFF the mat?
.
yoga philosophy, eight limbs of yoga, yoga beyond poses, authentic yoga, self study, yoga practice, personal growth, yoga is science, mindfulness, conscious living

Your body is not asking for more productivityâŚ
Itâs asking for a full breath.
Itâs asking for a moment without urgency.
Itâs asking for a nervous system that doesnât feel like it has to earn rest.
Many people are trying to solve exhaustion with better time management.
But exhaustion is often a physiological conversation, not a scheduling problem.
Your body is not a machine designed for maximum output.
Itâs a living system designed for rhythm, recovery, and connectionđ¸

The older I get, the less impressed I am by flexibility. Somewhere along the way, yoga became more about performance than practice.
Iâve met people who can put their foot behind their head and still speak terribly to themselves.
Iâve met people who can handstand for a minute and still have no boundaries.
Iâve met people who know every Sanskrit word in the book and still abandon themselves daily.
Flexibility is a skill, not a measure of wisdom.
It is not a measure of kindness.
It is not a measure of emotional intelligence.
It is not a measure of regulation.
The people who impress me most these days are the ones who:
⨠take responsibility for their actions
⨠have difficult conversations
⨠apologize when theyâre wrong
⨠honor their boundaries
⨠regulate themselves when life gets hard
⨠continue learning and growing
Yoga was never meant to be about how a pose looks.
It was meant to be about how we live.
At the end of the day, I donât care how flexible your hamstrings are.
I care how flexible your mind is.
đ What quality do you admire most in a teacher?

The wellness industry doesnât reward regulationđ§đźââď¸
It often rewards productivity, visibility, performance, and constant output.
So itâs possible to teach breathwork while holding your own breath.â¨To teach presence while rushing through your day.â¨To teach nervous system regulation while your own system is running on stress.
This isnât judgment.
Itâs an invitation.
Because the most powerful teaching doesnât come from what we know.
It comes from what we embodyđЎâ¨

Yoga teachers:
This might be the reason youâre exhausted-
itâs not your schedule, or social media, or the algorithm.
Itâs people pleasing - Saying yes when you want to say no, discounting your prices, answering messages at all hours, giving away your expertise, being available to everyone except yourself, and then wondering why resentment is building.
Hereâs the uncomfortable truth:
Many of us learned that being âgoodâ meant being self-sacrificing.
But self-sacrifice is not the same thing as compassion.
And eventually every act of self-abandonment comes with a bill.
Yoga taught me that boundaries arenât selfish.
Theyâre sustainable.
đ Where do you people please the most?

Burnout isnât always caused by doing too much. Sometimes itâs caused by ignoring too muchđ¤
Ignoring your limits.â¨Ignoring your exhaustion.â¨Ignoring the signals asking you to slow down.
Many people donât burn out from caring.
They burn out from caring for everyone except themselves.
The nervous system can sustain effort for a long timeđ§đźââď¸
It cannot sustain chronic self-abandonment forever.
At some point, the body collects the bill.

Your nervous system doesnât care how many oracle cards you own, or how many crystals are beside your bed, it doesnât care how many times youâve read The Untethered Soul (and I say this as someone who loves spiritual practice).
Spirituality and regulation are not the same thing.
You can be deeply spiritual and still:
⢠ignore your boundaries
⢠overwork yourself
⢠people please
⢠live in chronic stress
⢠abandon your own needs
Your nervous system responds to what you repeatedly do, not what you intellectually believe.
The goal isnât to choose science OR spirituality.
The goal is to understand how they work together.
Thatâs where the magic happens.
đ Have you ever confused spirituality with healing?

I know this one is going to ruffle some feathers, yet, before anyone gets defensiveâŚ
I LOVE education.
Iâve spent decades learning, Iâve taught hundreds of teacher trainings,
Iâve invested tens of thousands of dollars into my own growth.
This isnât anti-training.
Itâs anti-hiding.
At some point another certification stops being education and starts becoming avoidance.
Avoidance of:
⢠teaching
⢠being seen
⢠posting online
⢠charging your worth
⢠making mistakes
⢠trusting yourself
Many yoga teachers are not lacking knowledge, theyâre lacking confidence, and confidence doesnât come from another weekend course.
It comes from doing the thing.
Teaching the class.
Having the conversation.
Showing up imperfectly.
Itâs using what you already know, not learning more!
đ How many trainings have you taken?
I have over 5000 hours, not including all the Tony Robbins đ¤ itâs time to start.

Yoga culture loves to confuse poses with personal evolutionâŚ
But being flexible does not automatically make someone compassionate.
A handstand is not emotional intelligence.
Breathwork is not accountability.
Spiritual language is not integrity.
Real yoga is reflected in how you respond to discomfort, how you treat people, how you handle power, and whether your practice makes you more aware of yourself, not more obsessed with yourself.
The deepest part of yoga was never the pose.â¨It was the person practicing itđ§đźââď¸

Regulation is built in small momentsđ§đźââď¸
One slow exhale.â¨One unclenched jaw.â¨One moment of grounding before reacting.â¨One pause where the body realizes it does not need to stay braced.
The nervous system changes through repetition, not perfectionđЎ
You do not need an hour-long morning routine to begin reconnecting with your body.
Sometimes five intentional minutes is enough to interrupt the patternâ¨
