This is what a snack should do: taste good, keep you satisfied, and actually support your body.
Quick, satisfying, and good for you. Because after 40, random snacking isn’t a strategy.

Over 18 years of working with women, I’ve never met a woman who stood in front of the mirror and genuinely admired herself.
Instead, I’ve seen women criticize their bodies, focus on what they want to change, and speak to themselves in ways they would never speak to someone they love.
“What we put out into the world is what we receive back.”
I think the same applies to the body.
If you constantly give it stress, guilt, punishment, restriction, poor sleep, and tell yourself, “I’m too old,” “my metabolism is broken,” or “nothing works for me,” your body is living inside that message every day.
You cannot hate your body into better health.
Midlife is the time to stop fighting it and start listening to it.
Less punishment.
More support.
Less “What’s wrong with me?”
More “What is my body trying to tell me?”
So I’m curious…
What message have you been sending your body lately?

“GLP-1 nutrition” is becoming a booming product category.
Special shakes. Snacks. Supplements. Products marketed specifically to women taking Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro.
Some may be useful. When appetite decreases, getting enough protein, fibre and nutrients can become more difficult.
But you may not need another expensive product.
You need a clear plan to protect your muscle, support digestion, stay hydrated and meet your nutritional needs—especially if you’re experiencing:
• nausea or digestive discomfort
• constipation
• fatigue or weakness
• difficulty eating enough protein
• dehydration
• rapid weight loss
• loss of strength or muscle
GLP-1 medication can help manage appetite and weight. It cannot replace nutrition, strength training or personalised support.
As a registered nutritionist and fitness professional with over 18 years of experience helping women become stronger, healthier and more confident, I can help you understand what your body needs while taking a GLP-1 medication.

Your medication manages appetite. Your nutrition protects your health.
I finally learned how to make Shuba — Herring Under the Fur Coat.
If you grew up in Russia or the former Soviet Union, you probably know this beloved salad very well. It was on the table for birthdays, New Year’s, holidays… basically any celebration worth eating at. 😂
Funny enough, with all those childhood memories, I had never actually made it myself.
So I finally did — meaning I finally took the time to make it on my own and try preparing it from scratch.
And yes… it was a success.
Herring, potatoes, carrots, beets, eggs, onions — and I even made the mayo from scratch using boiled egg and cottage cheese. It turned out surprisingly delicious, and high of protein.
Food is also culture for me, company, memories and enjoyment.
Sometimes you just eat the Shuba. ❤️
Have you ever tried it?
Berberine is not a magic weight-loss pill.
And it’s definitely not just there to crush your appetite.
It can help support blood sugar control, insulin sensitivity, and overall metabolic health—but it still has to be used for the right reason.
Compared to weight loss peptides, the difference is in how they work. Peptides like GLP-1 agonists act more directly on appetite signals in the brain and gut hormones, often leading to reduced hunger and slower gastric emptying. Berberine, on the other hand, works more “behind the scenes” by improving how your body handles glucose and insulin.
I use berberine as a supportive tool, not as another trendy shortcut people jump on because social media made it sound effortless.
And even with peptides, the fundamentals don’t disappear—real food, muscle, movement, sleep, and a metabolism that’s actually being supported still matter.
Berberine can help.
Peptides can help.
But neither replaces the work your body still needs from you.
Have you tried either?
👉 Comment “Berberine” if you want professional-grade, carefully selected supplements from a registered nutritionist–approved pharmacy (with proper NPN numbers and quality you can trust).

Apparently, we are now “proteinmaxxing.”
I’ve been telling women for years that they need more protein, especially in midlife. So when a client tells me, “I’m trying to eat more protein,” I’m happy. Then I hear: protein coffee, protein cereal, protein bar, protein chips, protein dessert… and I start wondering, are we still eating food, or just collecting grams of protein?
For once, social media has the right idea. Protein becomes even more important as we get older because we’re fighting a very real problem: loss of muscle and anabolic resistance, meaning our muscles don’t respond to protein and training quite as efficiently as they once did. We need enough protein, and we need to spread it throughout the day rather than trying to rescue the whole situation with one enormous steak at dinner.
But here’s where “proteinmaxxing” loses me. More protein does not automatically mean more muscle. Your muscles need amino acids, but they also need a reason to grow—and that signal comes from progressive resistance training. You can put protein into your coffee, popcorn and probably toothpaste by next Tuesday, but if you’re not challenging your muscles, you’re missing half the equation.
And please don’t let “HIGH PROTEIN” on the front of a package convince you that an ultra-processed snack suddenly became health food. Sometimes it’s simply clever marketing wearing gym clothes.
So yes, eat more protein if you’re not getting enough. Prioritize real food, spread your protein across your meals, keep your fibre and plants, and lift something progressively heavier.
Proteinmaxxing? Maybe.
Musclemaxxing? Now you have my attention.

If losing weight after 40 feels harder than it used to, another strict diet or too much working out may not be the answer.
Your metabolism, hormones, muscle, digestion and stress response change with age. And it doesn't mean something is wrong with you or it's ageing. Your body isn’t broken, but it may need a different strategy.
