For those that missed it, this was North Knockout’s (owned by Lyle and Marie Whitmarsh) winning run from the Jack Carter $10k Open at The Xibition earlier this month!

Congratulations to all of the SPH group, we are so thankful to have a great group of horses and riders to work with. Proud of y’all!

People see the puppies.
They see the photographs, the videos, the chunky little bodies tumbling through the grass, and the proud families taking home their new best friend.
What they don’t see are the months, and often years, that came before those puppies ever existed.
They don’t see the late nights spent studying pedigrees and health testing. The endless conversations with mentors. The plans that change. The breedings that don’t take. The hopes you quietly carry every time you make a decision that could shape generations to come.
For me, breeding has never been about producing puppies.
It’s about preserving something I love.

Every breeding represents a dream. A belief that I can take everything I’ve learned, every success and every mistake, and create something just a little bit better than the generation before. Healthier. More stable. More capable. More true to the breed I fell in love with all those years ago.

There are sleepless nights beside a whelping box. Vet visits that leave you holding your breath. Difficult decisions that nobody prepares you for. Moments where the weight of responsibility feels almost overwhelming because these lives depend entirely on you.

And then the puppies leave.
People often assume that’s the happy ending.
In reality, it’s just the beginning.
A good breeder never really stops being responsible.

Every puppy that leaves my home takes a piece of my heart with it. I celebrate their victories. I laugh at the updates and photographs. I worry when something isn’t right. I grieve alongside their families when the unthinkable happens.
Years can pass, but they never stop being ā€œmy puppies.ā€
The truth is that breeding is not a hobby measured in ribbons, trophies, titles, or social media followers.
It’s measured in trust.

The trust families place in me when they choose one of my puppies. The trust I place in those families to love and care for them. The trust that every decision I make today will benefit the dogs that come tomorrow.
Most breeders don’t do this because it’s easy.
We do it because we can’t imagine not doing it.
Because every now and then, a message arrives from a family telling you that their dog changed their life.
A child gains confidence.
A family finds comfort after loss.
A companion becomes someone’s best friend, adventure partner, or reason to smile at the end of a difficult day.
Those moments remind us why we keep going.

So when you see a well bred dog, remember that behind that dog is someone who worried, planned, learned, sacrificed, celebrated, cried, and hoped.
Someone who loved that puppy long before it ever belonged to you.
And for most of us, that’s the part that matters most. šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦
