AKWESASNE GIRLS SKATE DAY 2026
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is excited to invite the skateboarding community to Akwesasne Girls Skate Day 2026, hosted by Akwesasró:non Melani Arquette and Kemptville’s Ashlynn Barrett Tucker. 🛹

Come out and celebrate girls, skateboarding, and community at this fun-filled afternoon for all skill levels!

The day will feature skate lessons, games, a mini ramp contest, awesome prizes, and music by DJ Crystal Stehlin. Enjoy a special performance by Feryn King, capture the moment with skater portraits by Jaiden Mitchell, and get creative at the tie-dye workshop with Tihanna Benedict (please bring a white t-shirt or another item you’d like to tie-dye). There will also be time for a mental health break and plenty of opportunities to connect, learn, and have fun.

Need a gift for the skateboarders in your life? They are born from a collaboration between La Vie Skateboards and Akwesasne Skatepark.

They are 3” inches shorter than a traditional board, making it easier for kids to get into skateboarding or enhance their skills. Intentionally left black and white so kids can color how they like.

They understand that growing the sport for everyone, means understanding what sport looks like for girls, and why they drop our earlier than boys. The Gender Equity Playbook helps sport leaders and organizations make their sport more inclusive by looking through a gender equity lens. This program is funded by the Government of Canada. Sport Canada - « Il s’agit de créer des liens avec les gens. Il s’agit de découvrir qui vous êtes à travers ces activités. » Ayant vu le jour en 2016, @CanadaSkateboard s’engage à développer le skateboard pour tous au Canada. L’organisation comprend que pour développer ce sport pour tous, il faut comprendre ce que représente le sport pour les filles et pourquoi elles abandonnent plus tôt que les garçons. Le Manuel de l’équité des genres aide les leaders et les organisations de sport à rendre leur sport plus inclusif en l’abordant sous l’angle de l’équité entre les genres. 11-1 girls skate jam with ComeLady, a wicked girls skate club from Quebec.

1-7 includes ‘Shred Series”, best trick contests for awesome prizes as well as music and food.

Check out this amazing collaboration between Akwesasne’s Victoria E. Ransom and Cornwall’s Robbie Lariviere! The theme was “empowerment, encouragement and pride”.

“Saia’ta:noron tanon Iesanoronhkhwa” translates to “You are precious and you are loved.”

We are super excited with how it turned out. Nia:wen Victoria and Robbie! You did an outstanding job!

We invite all youth to come over with latex paint or large tip paint markers to come over and color it in!

It’s next to the skatepark and playground on Kawehnoke. Stop in to check it out!
