Train. Evaluate. Train.
Too often in my life it's been a cycle of no practice and then too much practice. Wattie Karate is changing that. I am learning to focus on where I am and not rush to be where I am not.
The path has no end.

THE SOLUTION IS ALWAYS MORE TRAINING.

Before Dad Bod was Dad Bod, he was just a 19-year-old kid who thought he knew things.
He got recruited to join the Navy.
Up until then, life had been soft.
He lived with his mom and his brother.
He cared about music. The saxophone. The band.
To play in that band meant 13 weeks of basic training.
Dad Bod figured it would be simple.
So he asked his father — Old Man — a United States Marine.
“Dad… what’s it like?”
The Old Man looked at him for a second.
“Son… you ever see Full Metal Jacket? It's not a movie”

I train, struggle, and learn not only for myself, but so my sons can see what it means to keep walking.
Karate reminds me that the path is never walked alone. We walk it so those who come after may find their footing, see the example, and continue forward.
This is why I train.

Long before the Dad Bod, there was a kid from the 70’s surviving the streets of friendly Winnipeg.
The Karate Kid opened the door - but Jet Li lit the fire.
From worn VHS tapes came mysteries of Shaolin: Iron Body technique, the No Shadow Kick and deadly Nerve Blocking fights.
As the years passed, the body changed. The spirit did not.

This chapter of my life is about consistency and self-accountability. Wattie Karateis where I find the support to stay the course. It’s not a gym. It’s not a studio. It’s a place that values effort as much as results. It teaches you to be patient with yourself while lifting others up. In this dojo, you receive far more than you give.
