Planning your own paddle?

Before heading out, take a few minutes to check local conditions. Wind, tides, weather, and water conditions can all influence where and when it's best to paddle.

Our Current Conditions page is a great resource for local paddlers planning their own trip, helping you make informed decisions before you launch.

If you're joining us for a lesson, tour, or rental, don't worry. We'll monitor the conditions and make sure you're set up for a safe and enjoyable experience.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Paddle Canada Level 1 Sea kayaking course!

Our participants had an amazing time building their paddling skills, gaining confidence on the water, and enjoying a great weekend together.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for our final day. With winds reaching **50 km/h**, conditions weren't safe for completing the course. Safety always comes first.

The good news is that we'll be scheduling a **makeup day** so everyone has the opportunity to complete the remaining requirements and earn their Paddle Canada Level 1 certification.

Thank you to all our participants for your enthusiasm, flexibility, and positive attitude. We can't wait to get back on the water with you soon!

So relieved when stories end this way. Having a trip plan and a good communication device for the backcountry are critical in ensuring people are found in a timely manner.

UPDATE: Missing hiker located in Strathcona Provincial Park

We’re very happy to share that Keshav Jindal has been located alive after an extensive search in the Mount Albert Edward area of Strathcona Provincial Park.

Keshav was located in steep terrain, and search and rescue crews are currently working to safely bring him out of the area.

This search brought together seven Search and Rescue teams from across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, along with partner agencies.

A huge thank you to everyone who came together through mutual aid to support the search, and to the public for sharing information and supporting the effort.

We’ll share further details when appropriate.
