One final team effort for the season♻️⚾

After the tournament, our players rolled up their sleeves to sort all the recycled bottles and cans collected throughout the weekend. The proceeds will go toward purchasing a new bench at the diamonds to donate back to the community- giving players, families, and visitors another place to relax and enjoy the ball diamonds for years to come.

A huge thank you to everyone who recycled during the tournament. Every bottle and can helped turn trash into something that will benefit the entire community! 💚⚾

Two more thumbs up to all of our incredible volunteers!
There were so many people working behind the scenes to make this tournament a success. From serving on the protest committee and helping maintain the diamonds, to our amazing O Canada singers, flag bearers, presenters, community groups running the refreshment gardens, and countless others who stepped up wherever they were needed—you all played an important role.
If we’ve unintentionally missed anyone, please know how grateful we are. It truly took a community to pull off an event like this, and we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you. Thank you for giving your time, energy, and support!

Another special guest who joined us for our Opening Ceremonies Friday was Cianna (Lieffers) Murray. Born and raised in Cudworth, Cianna has gone on to make a name for herself in the hockey world and we were thrilled to welcome her home to speak on sportsmanship and help kick-off our tournament!
Cianna’s autobiography:
I began reffing when I was 12 years old in Cudworth, SK. It began as a perfect part time job in highschool and the opportunity to get more ice time. It quickly turned into a passion and a way to give back to the game I love so much. In my career I have worked two Winter Olympics Games (Beijing 2022 and Milano Cortina 2026) and was selected to officiate the gold medal final game at Milano Cortina 2026. I have worked 5 Women’s World Championships and was the first woman to officiate a men’s national tournament, Hockey Canada’s Centennial Cup in Calgary, AB in 2025. I currently work in the following leagues IIHF, PWHL, AHL, WHL, SJHL, and Women’s USport. I am also an officiating coach with both Hockey Canada and Hockey Saskatchewan, where I mentor and help develop officials. I currently live in Saskatoon and away from the rink, I am a Grade 7 teacher in Asquith, SK.
Cianna’s speech:
Welcome, everyone. My name is Cianna Murray, and I am very honoured to have been asked to give the sportsmanship acknowledgment at tonight’s opening ceremonies. As you begin this provincial tournament, I invite you to remember that true sportsmanship is just as important as winning or losing. Showing respect and appreciation for your coaches, who guide and support you; for your teammates, who play alongside you; for your opponents, who challenge you to bring your best to the game; and for the people in the stands, who are here to cheer you on. This weekend, play hard, give your best effort, and play with heart in every game. Remember that the way you play and the way you treat others is what truly represents you, your team, and your sport. I wish all of the athletes the very best of luck this weekend, and I hope you have a great provincial tournament. Thank you!

We were honoured to have Jeremy and Kendra join us as special guests during our Provincials Opening Ceremonies. Their heartfelt words about baseball, community, and the memories made on these diamonds were a wonderful reminder of what this game is all about.

We want to recognize their parents, Patti and Ron Cairns, whose dedication and passion were instrumental in establishing baseball in Cudworth many years ago. Today, our ball diamonds proudly bear their name—Cairns Memorial Park—a fitting tribute to the lasting impact they had on our community.
Although the baseball program in town went quiet for a time, when we brought it back eight years ago, we were fortunate to build on the foundation they had created—including the equipment and jerseys they had worked so hard to provide.
Their legacy continues to be felt on the diamonds in Cudworth, and we are grateful for everything the Cairns family contributed to our baseball community. Thank you, Jeremy and Kendra, for helping us honour that legacy and for sharing your family’s story with us. ❤️⚾

Here are the words from Jeremy (JJ as we all know him) about their parents:
Good evening everyone. My name is JJ Cairns and I'm extremely proud & privileged to be here to throw the ceremonial first pitch in honour of my mother & father, Patti & Ron Cairns. They both loved Cudworth and really wanted to see the community thrive.
-They spearheaded Great Western Days which brought musical stars like Dan Seals, Patricia Conroy, and the Johner Brothers to small town Saskatchewan.
-They started the monthly cash/vacation draw which has benefitted many fundraisers in the community.
-the ball diamonds were especially important to them. They were passionate about ball as players, coaches and volunteers.
-They coached youth ball for well over a decade. Mom would coach a team or run the league and Dad was volunteered to maintain the fields and chalk the lines.
-They planted & watered the trees around the park, added shale to the infields, and built the original playground.
-Mom & Dad brought various skill clinics to town, bought a pitching machine and organized a provincial girls softball team with 2 other communities.
-Mom was so proud when she would win the bid to host playoffs. It was a big honour & took many hours of planning, as many of you organizers know today, to successfully pull off.
-They would be so proud of this community to finally be hosting its first ever provincial championship. Lets be honest, they both probably would've been involved in some capacity.
-On behalf of my parents, I'd like to thank the Town of Cudworth for honoring them by naming the park after them.
-I pray that we have a weekend of sunny weather, good sportsmanship, no injuries, and be thankful that we get an opportunity to watch some incredible young athletes play the game they love so much!

Hats off to everyone involved!! 🧢
Not the ending we were hoping for, but what a weekend it was. The boys came up short in the semi-finals this morning, and while the disappointment is real, so is the pride. They battled hard all tournament, represented our town with class and created memories that will last a long time.
From the players and coaches to the families, volunteers, umpires, sponsors and every fan who cheered them on—thank you for making this weekend so special. Hosting provincials was an incredible experience, and the support from our community was second to none.
These boys should hold their heads high. They played with heart, supported each other every step of the way and gave us a lot to be proud of. 💚⚾️

We finished the day with a win and a loss, earning a 2nd-place finish in our pool and punching our ticket to the semi-finals!

We’ll take on the Muenster Red Sox tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM as we battle for a spot in the championship game.

The weather was hot, the crowd was incredible, and our boys had an absolute blast. We couldn’t ask for better support from our community, families, volunteers, and fans. Thank you for making this weekend so special!

Day 1 is in the books, and what a way to kick off Provincials!

We were treated to perfect weather, an incredible crowd, and a day full of great baseball. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on all the teams and help create such an awesome atmosphere.

Our Cyclones came ready to play, staying locked in from first pitch to last and earning a big 8–3 victory over the Coronach Southern Black Diamonds.
We’re back at it tomorrow with two more round-robin games at noon and 6:00. Keep the energy coming—we’ll see you at the ballpark! ⚾️💚
