Canada defeated Team USA 8-1 in Saturday night’s championship game in Edmonton. 🇨🇦

FARRELL RECEIVES HOCKEY CANADA ORDER OF MERIT 🍁

Hockey Canada has announced its 2026 national award winners, and a familiar face leads the way for the Atlantic region. 🌊

Arnie Farrell, former president of Hockey Nova Scotia, has been named the recipient of the Order of Merit (Atlantic), recognizing a lifetime of volunteer leadership in the game.

Congratulations on this recognition, Arnie! Well deserved! 👏👏👏

HAPPY 80TH BDAY, JPJ! 🎂

One of the great trailblazers in the sport we love is celebrating another very special milestone today. Windsor's John Paris Jr. is turning 80.

John was the first Black coach in the QMJHL (and the Canadian Hockey League).

The first Black scout in the NHL.

The first Black general manager in professional hockey.

And in 1994, he became the first Black head coach in pro hockey, leading the Atlanta Knights to a Turner Cup championship in that same season.

He has worn every hat in the game, and worn them all with class.

BERTHIAUME'S BACK ON TEAM CANADA 🇨🇦

A Nova Scotian netminder will be back between the pipes for Canada on home ice this week.

Stellarton's Sam Berthiaume has been named to Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 Team for the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. The event takes place from Aug. 3-8 at Rogers Place and the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton.

Last November, Berthiaume represented Canada at the 2025 U17 World Challenge in Truro. Berthiaume and Team Canada White brought home silver from the tournament.

🏅 PRESIDENT'S AWARD 🏅

Hockey Nova Scotia and President Brad MacKinley are proud to announce that Diversity and Inclusion Chair Dean Smith has been named the recipient of the 2026 President's Award.

Created in 1988 by former Hockey Nova Scotia President Ken Mantin, this annual award recognizes an individual who has made a remarkable contribution to the sport and provided outstanding service to amateur hockey throughout Nova Scotia.

A Halifax lawyer with a passion for making hockey safe and welcoming for every Nova Scotian, Dean chaired our Diversity and Inclusion Task Force and has spent every season since turning its recommendations into action. He is the driving force behind the Black Youth Ice Hockey Program, a leader in the campaign, and a 2023 recipient of the NHL's Willie O'Ree Community Hero Award.

Dean's leadership has left every program he has touched better than he found it. We're proud to have him on our team.

Congratulations, Dean, and thank you for everything you do.
