Canoe’26 is just around the corner!
Lake Banook is one of the premier paddling venues in the world, not only because of its geography, but because of the incredible legacy built along its shores over generations.
Few places in our sport can match what this lake has produced. Lake Banook has been home to generations of Canada’s very best paddlers, helping shape athletes who have competed and succeeded on the world stage (including our very own Michelle Russell)
Hosting this event is incredibly special and presents a unique opportunity for youth and adults in our community to be part of something truly world class.
There are still many ways to get involved as a volunteer, and there is truly a role for everyone regardless of your experience in the sport.
Abenaki is proud to support this event and encourages all members and athletes to get involved! You can scan the QR code here to check out more details!

We’ve been holding onto a little secret since the fall… and it’s FINALLY time to share.
This past fall, athletes from Abenaki welcomed soccer superstar Erin McLeod - 2x Olympian, former member & goalie of the Canadian National Women’s Soccer Team, former Halifax Tides FC player, and a passionate advocate for equity in sport to Abenaki to film a very special project called “Beyond the Game” with Canadian Tire Jumpstart.
Our team spent the day talking about gender equity in sport. They shared their experiences, hopes for the future, and what fairness and opportunity in sport truly means to them. The conversation was thoughtful, honest, deeply inspiring and came from many different perspectives.
The message captured in this video, IS Abenaki.
Erin captures the true essence of what our club stands for ~ creating space for conversations that matter, building a culture of respect and inclusion, and believing that sport should be a place where everyone belongs.
For a small community club, moments like this carry a lot of meaning. Not because of the spotlight but because of the message.
Community clubs like ours are where sport really begins. Where values are shaped. Where confidence grows. Where the future of sport quietly takes root.
We are beyond proud that Abenaki is a part of this conversation.
Because sometimes the most important conversations in sport don’t start on the biggest stages… they start right here at community clubs, with people who simply believe sport can be better.
And if this is where the conversation starts, we’re proud that it started here 💚
Take a moment to watch the clip. Sit with the message and share it.

Did you know we’ve been running a winter dryland program for the past five months?
It’s been an incredible way to maintain team connection, keep fitness levels strong, and develop well-rounded athletes through intentional cross-training. Every athlete in this group is a true multi-sport athlete and it shows.
And here’s something pretty cool… our young athletes are training in the very same facility used by the Canadian National Team. Big dreams start in places like that.
We are so proud to be offering this dryland program free of charge for the second year in a row to our dedicated athletes. Commitment goes both ways and this is one way we continue to invest in our team.

Little congrats bouquet for our Head Coach
Emily has been awarded the Mitacs Globalink Research Award for international research collaboration.
Her athletes were thrilled to take a minute from dryland to celebrate her and hear more about her research!
