We swim Monday- Friday mornings at the Cole Harbour Outdoor Pool starting July 1st and have swim meets most weekends throughout the summer.

We are hiring an Assistant Coach for the 2026 season!!

The Colby Sailfish Swim Team is seeking a charismatic and energetic candidate to fill the role of Assistant Coach. The team is a long standing, not-for-profit, summer swim team with approximately 45 swimmers ranging in age from 8 to 18.
The Colby Sailfish swim during the Swim Nova Scotia Summer Swim season of July and August, training in the Cole Harbour Outdoor Pool, located in Colby Village.
The team competes at local swim meets, time trial events and Summer Provincials. The Colby Sailfish promote a fun, inclusive environment where youth are exposed to the sport of competitive swimming.

The Colby Sailfish are currently accepting applications for a qualified Assistant Coach for the summer of 2026.

Key Responsibilities:
🐠Assist the Head Coach in planning and implementation practices for all age groups.
🐠Instruct proper competitive swimming techniques.
🐠Demonstrate proper use of equipment.
🐠Observe and coach swimmers to develop correct swimming technique by providing effective and timely feedback.
🐠Demonstrate a positive and engaging coaching style on the pool deck during practices and swim meets.
🐠Attend all swim meets, time trials and team social events.
🐠Report to the Head Coach in conjunction with the Colby Sailfish Parent Association ("CSPA") Executives. A meeting with the executive will be planned prior to the start of the season to discuss expectations. A check in meeting will be scheduled for the middle of the summer season.
🐠Assist with the completion of administrative tasks as required by the Head Coach (e.g. SNS meet entries).

Qualifications:
🏊Eligible for annual membership through Swim Nova Scotia in: Nova Scotia Swim Coaches Association (NSSCA), Swimming Canada (SNC).
🏊NCCP Swimming Community Sport Coach or higher.
🏊Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse registry Check (If over the age of 18).
🏊Ability to work with other coaches and work effectively in a team environment.
🏊Reliable transportation during the summer. Ability to travel to swim meets most weekends (SNS summer swim meet schedule to be released in the spring)
🏊Enjoy working with children and youth.
🏊Effective leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
🏊Experience and or knowledge of competitive swimming programs.
🏊Previous coaching experience would be considered an asset.
🏊Knowledge of the Hy-Tek Team Software is an asset.

The Colby Sailfish practice at the Cole Harbour Outdoor Pool at 609 Colby Drive.

The position requires on average approximately 20-24 hours per week on the pool deck for team practices. Practices typically occur from 7:00AM - 11:00 AM Monday to Friday.
An additional 8 - 16 hours on the weekend for swim meets will be required depending on the meet schedule.

Start date will be July 1, 2026 through to August 20th, 2026.

Rate of pay is competitive and based on qualifications and experience for the duration of the 7-week season. Overtime is to be paid out at the end of season if necessary.

Hi friends and neighbors!
This year we are holding our annual swim meet on Sunday, July 27. This is a very exiting day for our swim team, when we host hundreds of families at our pool for a day filled with fun and great races. The traffic in the area of the Cole Harbour Outdoor Pool will be busy, there will be music, announcements and lots of kids. The community is welcome to come cheer on our local swimmers, and grab a treat at the onsite canteen.
