Planet Ice Delta

We are currently seeking 2-3 full-time Arena & Facility Operators who will be working out of our Delta and Coquitlam locations. This role will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of all areas of this facility and will be reporting to the Operations Manager. Those with mostly janitorial experience are welcome to apply and we will be happy to train on ice maintenance responsibilities – great for anyone who’s willing to expand on their skillset!

Wage: $27.00 - $31.50 per hour depending on experience

Responsibilities (30% Janitorial, 70% Ice Maintenance):

Performs a variety of equipment operation and equipment maintenance duties
Maintenance of ice surfaces including driving a Zamboni
Perform all regular maintenance and preventative maintenance duties including but not limited to grounds work, snow removal, painting, plumbing, minor electrical work, carpentry, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
Ice installations and removals
Identify general facility/maintenance issues and perform necessary repairs as required
Perform janitorial/custodial duties as assigned
Maintain a good working relationship with other staff, the public, and most importantly the facility users
Able to exercise some independence in judgment and action in accordance with established practices and procedures
Able to deal tactfully and firmly with groups and individuals to ensure observance of rules and regulations
Prepare reports and organize records.
Ideal Candidate:

High School diploma
Valid BC Driver’s license
WHMIS Training certificate
A BC Government 4th Class power Engineer Certificate, Refrigeration Operators Ticket, or Ice Facility Operator Ticket, or willing to obtain a ticket during the probationary period.
Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in ice-making and refrigeration operation
Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work
Experience in operating ice resurfacing equipment, edger's, ice making, and refrigeration equipment.
Ability to work with minimal supervision on various shifts as the arena operates 7 days a week, 24 hours per day

Mandatory Use of Mask or Face Covering within
ALL PLANET ICE FACILITIES

Effective October 1, 2020, all employees, visitors, and customers are required to wear a mask or face covering upon entering and remaining within any Planet Ice Facility. The mask or face covering must cover the nose, mouth, and chin.

Temporary removal of the mask or face covering is permitted for the following purposes:

• On ice participation and players benches (Field of Play).
• Within the dressing room, only when a helmet is being worn. When an athlete’s helmet is removed, the athlete will wear a face mask or face covering.
• Dining at Boomers Bar & Grill.
• For any emergency or medical purpose.

This policy will be implemented and enforced

• Signs about the requirement to wear masks or face coverings shall be posted at all public entrances.
• Persons entering or remaining in the facility without a mask or face covering will be given a verbal reminder of the policy’s masking requirement. Failure to comply will result in person being banned from the facility.
• Employees will be trained on the policy, including where and how to properly wear a mask or face covering, and how to respond to customers who are not cooperative in wearing a mask or face covering.

We also wanted to let you know that we have made some important changes to ensure the safety of our players and staff including enhanced cleaning and sanitization protocols with sanitization stations throughout the facility, along with social distancing measures.

We are focused on getting our adult players back in the facilities and on the ice in a safe and secure environment and we look forward to seeing you soon at !

It has been very challenging but through this Planet Ice has been working hard and became an industry leader in North America on re-opening facilities in a safe and responsible manner. Currently in British Columbia we have 7 ice sheets open and shortly another 3 will come online. With strict restrictions and support from our players, guardians & skill providers the youth within our communities are back playing the game we all love!

We are now focused on getting our adult players back in the facilities and on the ice. As we continue to look at different options, as more information becomes available daily, please email the League Coordinator at your facility any questions, comments or ideas on how you would like to see adult hockey shape up for the 2020/21 season. Under strict restrictions, Planet Ice Coquitlam / Delta will open as of Monday May 18, 2020 for pre booked ice sessions only. At this time there will be no access to the facility for the general public.

The Health & Safety of our Guests and our Staff is always our top priority. We are closely monitoring the recent outbreak of COVID-19 and are committed to keeping you informed about the actions we are taking to prevent its spread.

At this time Planet Ice is open. We ask that sport groups limit spectators and arrive a maximum of 20 minutes prior to your start time.

We have already taken some precautionary measures at Planet Ice, and we continue to make immediate adjustments as new information becomes available:
• Increased sanitation practices have been implemented for all areas. This includes frequent disinfecting of high-use areas such as restrooms, door handles, handrails and elevators
• We are using posted signage throughout our facilities (including restrooms) to emphasize to Guests & Staff on the importance of frequent handwashing and proper hygiene practices
• We are also encouraging Staff, Volunteers, and Guests to stay home if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms such as muscle aches, dry cough or runny nose

We know that members of our communities may have concerns about the spread of COVID-19 and Planet Ice/CNC will be providing updates, as required, if our programs, services, or facilities are impacted.

At this time Planet Ice is proceeding with all schedules programs and events, and will continue to do so unless the Government imposes restrictions.

We have implemented increased sanitation practiced at all of our facilities. These practices include: frequent disinfecting of high-use areas such as, door handles, railing, elevators, and restrooms. Notices have been posted to encourage all patrons, staff and volunteers to frequently wash their hands. Staff have also been notified to stay home if they are experiencing symptoms such as muscle aches, dry cough, or runny nose.
