I’m living proof you can meet your besties later in life.
Meet Karen and Mark, our best friends. They live in the UK, we live in Canada, and somehow fate decided an ocean wasn’t going to keep us apart. I’m so grateful it didn’t.
I have lots of acquaintances, but only a handful of people who know my heart. I don’t hang out with my high school crowd. I hate parties (too people-y). And at most events, I’m the last to arrive and the first to leave - if I show up at all.
So meeting new people at 50, and connecting with them the way I’ve only ever connected with my husband? That’s a rare gift.
I wasn’t looking for them. I’m just really glad they found me.
If you’ve been telling yourself it’s too late to make real friends, it isn’t. Put yourself out there. Join a group, a team, a sport, a course. Your people might be one “yes” away.
