Here we go again... the Holiday Season is upon us. Keeping fit, staying healthy and sticking to our fitness program can be daunting.

It's been reported by the Public Health of Canada, that 64% of Canadians 18 years old and older are overweight or obese. An even more shocking news is that 30% of children 17 years and younger are also overweight or obese.

These numbers are definitely on the rise. Given this pandemic situation we find ourselves in, all the more reason we have to do everything we can not to settle in this sedentary lifestyle make things worse.

If losing weight and burning body fat are what you want to do, there are a few things that will help you take control.

1) Be clear on what your goal is: to lose weight and firm-up.
2) Learn how to make healthy meals that are equally nutritious and delicious.
3) Find out what kind of training will help you lose the weight and make your body effective in burning body fat.
4) Find out how you can make cardio workouts not a waste of your time.

Work with a trainer who can help you through this. The Holiday Season doesn't need to be a time out from your fitness journey.

[11/15/20]   Make changes... not excuses!!!!

There's not one candy, candy bar or chocolate in our house... we actually tried to find boxes of treats to buy for the expected few trick or treaters who may come by the house. But last-minute shoppers like us were out of luck.

Well, now we prepare for the Christmas Holiday Season. Celebrations may be different this year, depending still on the pandemic situation we are in.

Why not focus on your health and wellness. What is your workout routine? Have you stopped, or kept it up? What's your set up at home? What do you do to keep fit?

- We worry just about everything; work, kids, bills, our safety, that when I workout, that time is mine. I listen to my breathing, I can focus my energy in my exercises. It's my way of combatting stress.
- I can't call my lifestyle sedentary. Exercising wakes up every muscle in my body. I'm strong, I have balance and I feel great. And because we, at home all exercise, we make sure we feed our bodies well, we eat well.
- Working out results in having a strong sense of confidence. We have fun. So we share this feeling. We workout with others who are like-minded, because we encourage each other, we are not alone, and it's fun to share experiences and stories with one another.

[06/09/20]   Since March of this year, the COVID-19 pandemic has spread though society, creating a public health crisis. In our collective efforts to combat the spread of the virus, measures were taken which led to unprecedented damage to small business. Just recently, I made the difficult choice of shutting down my brick-and-mortar fitness studio on Oka Road. As with many small fitness businesses, I decided to switch over to online training early on, in order to remain viable and to be of service to you, our Paravie members.

It was a scary time for me. I feared having to start all over again, and having to leave behind all the hard work I’ve put in.

But I also thought about all of you. How many of these situations are you now dealing with?

A new routine where:
you work from home,
you’re home-schooling young children,
your workouts may not be regular, as everyone needs your attention,
you’re baking more with all the time you have, and your clothes are feeling a little tighter,
you‘re more tired, you have less energy,
you don’t know how to get back to where you were before,

Votre santé et votre forme physique continuent d'être la priorité numéro un de Paravie Fitness. Ce n'est pas parce que nous ne sommes pas en mesure de nous former en établissement que notre voyage vers une meilleure santé et bien-être se termine ici. J'ai travaillé fort pour mettre sur pied un programme d'entraînement à domicile pour vous garder en forme, en bonne santé et fort pendant cette période difficile à Deux-Montagnes.

As a Gym Owner during this unprecedented times, we've seen numbers of people panic, not knowing how we'll come out of this. I understand.😍😍
After suffering member cancellations, people not keen on Zoom workouts, and a significant revenue hit... I've been working hard to figure out where Paravie Fitness is heading.
Over these many weeks since we've shut our doors in March, the one bright light shining in front of me has been that Paravie Fitness is not it's address, it's not the location... but the relationship created in the studio between people, and the experiences lived together within those walls over those years.

I've been busting to keep present for those still wanting to continue moving! Because of them I am still here. We have new challenges. For now, we've had to move out of the space we had. But we are still training, still moving and still getting stronger.

Exercice pour combattre le stress

Comme beaucoup d'entre nous, le stress semble faire partie de notre mode de vie ces jours-ci. Nous continuons à penser, 'un jour, ça va devenir plus facile'.

Un des premiers effets du stress, c'est que nous avons tendance à manger moins parce que nous devenons préoccupés, sans énergie pour le combattre. Comme cela continue et devient chronique, nous nous tournons vers la nourriture pour le confort. Donc, nous mangeons plus, souvent des aliments moins nutritifs pour se sentir bien.

La réponse naturelle de notre corps est de libérer des produits chimiques qui vous disent qu'il est heureux à cet état et augmente ainsi votre poids. Ces hormones de stress sont ce que nous appelons le cortisol.

La meilleure solution pour nous tous est de faire de l’exercice. L'exercice libère des produits chimiques qui vont combattre le cortisol. Ce sont les endorphines. Les endorphines sont parfois appelées "les hormones du bonheur". Trouvez un moyen de relaxer, de détourner votre attention du stress et de vous sentir calme. Certaines personnes peuvent faire de la méditation, ou une simple promenade fera aussi bien.
