Born a stone's throw away from Moncton, Ryan Downey brings a level of class and elegance to the club. A foilist at heart, he is easygoing, spontaneous and won't hesitate to turn a lesson on its heels to keep the students guessing. His relaxed attitude keeps him patient with students of all levels and his passion for the sport's classic history shines through. If you find yourself lucky to be coached by Ryan from the receiving end of a sword, you will recognize it as fencing a fox. Witty, clever and quick, he would have won the match before you ever noticed. A real Aramis.

At the center of it stands Marc Andre LeBlanc

Born and raised in New Brunswick, Marc began his fencing journey in a small club with big dreams. But the province couldn't contain the ambition burning inside him. He moved west, chasing excellence, chasing legacy—and he found it on the national stage.

But that wasn’t the end of the story. It was the beginning of something greater.

Marc returned to where it all began, to give back what he never had: a future in fencing, in New Brunswick. Taking over the club that sparked his dream, he rebranded it as La Résistance—not just a name, but a promise. A defiant stand for opportunity, grit, and greatness in the Maritimes.

He became the anchor of fencing in Atlantic Canada. A coach, a mentor, a visionary. He's reignited a fire in young athletes and placed Maritime fencing back on the national radar.

What a fantastic first day at the inaugural Shediac Renaissance Faire! ⚔️

Today we traded the fencing piste for the grass and spent the day crossing swords with pirates, fairies, knights, and adventurers from every realm.

Our booth was buzzing from start to finish as visitors tried on fencing masks, handled Olympic fencing weapons, learned the basics, and tested their luck against our athletes.

We're honestly not sure who had more fun—our fencers or everyone who stepped up to give Olympic fencing a try!
