NEWSFLASH!!! CENS LOSE SEMI-FINAL THRILLER 5-4 TO STE-AGATHE...VALIANT COMEBACK TRY FALLS SHORT...

It's been a long journey. A fun ride but all good things come to an end eventually. Our boyz went out in style, falling behind early to a strong Ste. Agathe team. Instead of throwing in the towel, the Cens clawed back and closed the deficit to 2-1. Jacob Rouimi had an outstanding shift with Demetre Christopoulos and Ahmad Derbas and Jakey's second effort paid off. Ste. Ag made it 3-1 but Matthew Goodman (Not the vacationing Koby Diamond as the score sheet reads) roofed a backhander to narrow the gap yet again. The teams returned to the ice after the 2nd period pause and Austin Ludmer knotted the game at 3. The Cens failed to control the puck in their own zone and that led to 2 quick goals. But Tyler Kastner, who's been on fire of late, drew his team to within a single goal again. With the game winding down, the Cens pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. With only 7.5 seconds left on the clock, Ste. Ag drew 2 penalties on the same play and called a time out with the faceoff deep in their zone. The Cens scripted the play and executed it to perfection, EXCEPT, Taiger's D to D pass to Raj Patel decided to stand on edge and refused to lie flat and Patel couldn't get off the kind of shot he wanted while his teammates crashed the net for a rebound. What a game!

Austin Ludmer had a goal and an assist and did everything he possibly could all game long...The penalty kill was perfect again and the power play kept on sustained pressure every chance it got.

NEWSFLASH!!! CENS SEASON CONTINUES WITH 2-0 SHUTOUT WIN OVER CHEVALIERS...

The coach's post game comment to the team was simple. Everyone go out tonight and get a concussion!

Fresh off his dramatic game-winning overtime goal a day earlier, Tyler TK Kastner broke a scoreless 3rd period tie with a shorthanded tally which proved to be the winner. Raj Patel scored the insurance marker with a P.K. Subban-like rocket from the right point and Noam Vardy recorded his umpteenth shutout of the season.

TK's heroics happened after the Cens took a penalty early in the 3rd. He found a loose puck outside his right blueline and steamed up ice. Kastner found another gear and burned around the Chevalier defender and cut toward the net. He then cut across the goalie but delayed shooting until the goalie blinked, going down and exposing the left side of the net and TK buried it. Second consecutive game winner and player of the game award. All of the sudden, the kid who missed a week and a half of hockey with a concussion is making like Max Pacioretty! Unbelievable story!

With the Cens clinging to a slim one goal lead, Vardy made what was likely his biggest save on a low drive from the right side along the ice that was ticketed for the left side of the net. Vardy kicked out his right pad and deftly directed the blast to the corner.

Raj keeps softening teams up with his blasts and defenders are starting to bail out of the way or get hurt. His cannon cleanly beat the Lachenaie goalie.

The defense was rock-solid all game affording the Chevaliers few clear shots.

Practice(s) this week and onto our final weekend of hockey.

NEWSFLASH!!! CENS TAKE BASTIONS DE BLAINVILLE II TO OT & WIN TOURNAMENT OPENING THRILLA' 3-2...

It may only have been the first game of hopefully several more to come, but Tyler TK Kastner made a triumphant return from a concussion, which sidelined him from the playoff semi-final, and banged in the OT winner from a scrum in the crease. With time winding down in the 5 minute overtime period and the Cens the beneficiary of a power play created when Matthew Goodman was hauled down from behind on a breakaway (Looked like the ref was about to call the penalty shot) the pressure on the Bastions was relentless. Demetre Christopoulos did the grunt work in the corner to get the puck to the front of the net where TK was taking up real estate in the dirty zone. Player of the game, TK found the five-hole and the Cens eked one out.

The Bastions started the game ablaze and peppered goalie Riley Mallen with a 14 shot barrage. Koby Diamond came off a good practice to open the scoring but the Bastions came right back and then took a 2-1 lead. Head Coach "Old What's His Name" read the troops the riot act between periods and the forwards tightened up defensively, cutting down on the odd-man attacks the Bastions kept coming with in the 1st period. The shots on goal turned in the 2nd period and Nicola Oppedisano used a quick release from the dirty zone to knot the score at 2. The Bastions captain was a force all game and our boyz were fortunate that a few of his chances missed the mark. A lack of discipline put the Bastions in penalty trouble late in the 3rd and although the power play kept up a sustained attack, they just couldn't find the net. Raj Patel kept the Bastions defenders honest firing shot after shot toward the net and one pinged off the outside of the post. Onto overtime, Goodman's penalty draw on his breakaway and TK's heroics.

Turnabout is Fair Play: After giving up more shots in the 1st period than they allowed in most games, our Cens turned things around, showed goalie Mallen some support and held the Bastions to one measly shot through the 3rd period and OT. There were numerous blocked shots by the D and Forwards.

Back in action today versus the Chevaliers de Lachenaie, 1-0 losers in their opener on Saturday. Noam Vardy is between the pipes. See you at the rink!

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE....

Our boys got back on the ice after taking some time to lick the wounds. An unexpected bonus when there was no one on the ice before and after our scheduled practice and our boys took full advantage with a good 2 hour + workout. Team Mallen beat team Vardy in the 3 on 3 scrimmage and the players were gassed by the end.

Practice Wednesday and then onto our first tournament game vs the Bastions de Blainville 2 in Lachenaie on Saturday.

NEWSFLASH!!! COUGARS SLIP BY JAGS 3-2 IN GAME 1 FINAL ROUND SHOOTOUT...

03/23/2014

NEWSFLASH!!! 😂

Anyone got a crying towel? Seems like Loblaw's is the place to go to drown your sorrows, LOL! Our boyz played a great game but it simply wasn't to be. The Cougars found a way to win their first game in 4 meetings against our Cens. Still missing Tyler TK Kastner, we had our chances but the Cougars did a great job clearing the rebounds. A couple of lapses gave the team from West Island the openings they needed and they then played tough defense to close it out. Territorially, the Cens had the edge but as they say, you can't win if you don't score.

No shame in losing and it certainly wasn't for any lack of effort. The boyz still have a tournament to play before ending their long season.

Hold your heads high team! You exceeded expectations and had an outstanding season. We're all so very proud of you!

NEWSFLASH!!! CENS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER ~ BOUNCED FROM REGIONALS ~ ADVANCE TO PLAYOFF SEMIS VS COUGARS...

It was the worst of times - it was the best of times. Our Cens found it tough sledding against the physical style of the Seigneurs falling 3-1. Soulanges drew first blood but our boys gamely battled back to tie it on a beauty by Brad Taiger. Numerous missed opportunities to clear our own zone and a couple of dropped sticks sent a rebound to an unattended Seigneur to the side of the net and he made no mistake about it for a 2-1 lead. The Cens got away from their style and tried to match the physicality of Soulanges to no avail. We also lost one of our leaders to two vicious hits that saw him taken for tests to the hospital. Tyler Kastner is now day to day with an undisclosed "upper body" injury. Don't expect to see him back anytime soon, at least until the Tweety Birds stop circling his head. The Soulanges player should have been tossed on the head first hit into the boards.

Kastner figured to be a key player in the 2pm game. The strategy was to have him blanket the Lions leading scorer and captain, Gauvin, whose father dropped him down from "A" to "B" so he could play with his brother on one team instead of having to run around for both boys on different teams in Bantam. Once TK went down and out, Demetre Chistopoulos was given the assignment and almost played the role to perfection. After a scoreless 1st period, the Cens got on the board first on a great pass from the right boards by Raj Patel who saw Matthew Goodman parked at the left post. Matthew was able to reach out and poke in the loose puck. The boyz came close a little earlier on a great feed by Ahmad Derbas to Austin Ludmer who ripped a shot off the crossbar. The Cens extended their lead when Raj Patel crossed the blueline and unleashed a blast from the right side that cleanly beat the Lion goalie. Then things got interesting. With a faceoff deep in Cens territory and a Lion timeout called, the Cens were able to set up to clear the zone following the critical faceoff. They had their chance to clear the zone but turned over the puck inside the blueline and Gauvin pounced on it and beat a screened Noam Vardy with around 3:37 to go. Our boyz did an outstanding job of keeping the Lions bottled up in their own zone and they never really threatened. The Cens bench called a timeout with 1:08 to play and the boyz got their instructions which they executed to perfection. And with their goalie pulled for an extra attacker, Lion captain Gauvin took a bad penalty with 0:17 left and that was all she wrote. The defence was outstanding all game and gave up few 2nd chances

Semi final game goes tomorrow against the Cougars, 2-1 winners early Saturday versus the Aces. We don't look past that.

UPDATE: TK has awakened from his unplanned nap and reported to be headache-free and chatting up the girls online, no doubt telling them how his leg was broken in three places but he still finished the game...

NEWSFLASH!!! MALLEN BLANKS MARQUIS FOR 4-0 PLAYOFF OPENING WIN...

Bradley Taiger opened the scoring early and our Cens kept the pressure on all game as our boyz got their playoff opening win under their belts in a chippy 4-0 affair. Austin Ludmer got off the plane in time to score. Koby Diamond had his stick on the ice and went to the net to convert a perfect pass from Taiger. Tyler TK Kastner used a quick release from in tight to round out the scoring. Riley Mallen made several key stops including a couple of breakaways and one late that deflected wide off the shaft of his stick to preserve the shutout. Jacob Rouimi took a pounding but played his best game of the season, taking away several pucks, covering the point for his "D" man and absorbing some serious punishment along the boards. Sean Kelly was a rock on "D" and pinched to keep the pressure on. Taiger was a one - man wrecking crew and has found a new gear which makes him unstoppable. The coaching staff stayed late and scouted the Citadel/Lions game. The Citadels scored first but the Lions battled back and scored an empty netter late to take it 4-1. Our Cens will now face the high-scoring Lions.

NEWSFLASH!!! CENS OPEN REGIONALS WITH 1-0 HEART-STOPPER VS COUGARS...

Wow! It was never in doubt ;-) . Brad Taiger scored a short-handed goal with just a shade over 1 minute left in sudden - death 4 on 4 overtime to win a nail-biter. His heroics were made possible after his team had taken a penalty in OT and did a fine job killing most of the 4 on 3 disadvantage. The Cougars thought they'd won it when their player fired a shot from outside the blue line that found the empty net. Noam Vardy had outraced the Cougar player to a loose puck which would have led to a clear Cougar breakaway. Vardy fired the puck against the boards to clear the zone but onto a Cougar stick who fired it into the vacated net. Except that the Cougar who Vardy had raced for the puck didn't yet clear the zone and the goal was called back offside. Both goalies made huge stops with the game a scoreless tie. Our boyz skated hard and were missing team-leading point getter Austin Ludmer. Tyler TK Kastner and Demetre Christopoulos skated miles and did a great job clogging the middle. Jacob Rouimi almost settled it in regulation time when he was in perfect position to redirect a great shot from the point off the stick of Sean Kelly. The Cens were handed a golden opportunity to score late when Martel drew a 4 minute penalty with just over 4 minutes left in regulation. Cens called a time-out with 30 seconds left in the 3rd and came oh so close off the ensuing face-off but the Cougar goalie stymied our boyz. Taiger's shorthanded winner was a coast to coast job. Taiger took the puck just inside his own right side blue line. With daylight ahead of him, he crossed the Cougars line and cut to the middle just before the hash marks. The Cougar goalie's momentum carried him to his right and and Taiger roofed one to the goalie's left above his glove. Next up ~ playoff game vs the Marquis who've been playing well of late.
