Great Example of the Benefits of Strength Train.
This is my friend Michael Lebold. He lives in San Diego, is an awesome mural artist, and a lifelong runner (he is still winning medals! 🎖) which is how we became friends.
Michael has graciously allowed me to repost his recent post as it is a prime example of what strength training can do for a body at any age.
Many many days I wish I were a better writer so I could post great fitness info that would be engaging to read in the hopes to inspire one person at a time to become curious enough about fitness to give something new a try. But I regularly feel ungifted as a wordsmith, and also, how can I possibly make a dent in all the fitness myths that are propagated on social media, magazines, commercials, etc. such as: Women thinking they should do cardio only to achieve the ideal beach body; that strength training will produce bulk; form...whats form?; that fitness is allowance to eat anything and still expect desired results.
Let me briefly debunk just these few myths:
1. Cardio does burn calories and is also excellent for developing and maintaining heart, lung and vascular health. Cardio WILL NOT change the shape of your muscles. Your b***y, biceps, legs will not get sculpted from cardio alone.
2. Strength training will not produce bulk as seen on the cover of body building magazines. That takes a s**t ton of years and STEROIDS! Standard and regular strength/weight training will make your muscles denser and produce a round shape (and of course increase strength). It will also help protect your joints throughout the years, improve posture and improve you enjoyment and quality of living.
3. Good form is a thing! Near 100% of fitness injuries are avoidable. When weight training, 1cm off from good form can lead to painful injuries when doing heavy lifts.
4. Proper nutrition and appropriate portions are an absolute fundamental must to achieve fitness and physique goals. Nobody's body that you admire is eating fast food or frozen processed foods on a regular basis.
Anyways, I love this post from Michael, and a picture speaks a thousand words. His post alone says more about the benefits of strength training than i ever could. Not only does he look better at 64 🤩 and is faster, look how much less exhausted and tapped out he is as shown in his facial expression. Ya brother!!! Thank you for sharing and letting me share it too! 💖
