Seibukan Karate Dojo Edmonton

Matt, Kelly, and Clara train with Sensei Ngadeu in Montreal. We were very happy to have them visit us again this evening. Such wonderful friends.

Two different experiences of Japan. Ours is on the right.

I am not claiming ours, which doesn't have the breadth and diversity of the other, is better. But there is a difference in purpose and depth.

私たちは本気で空手をしています。Watash*tachi wa honki de karate o sh*te imasu.

“We do karate seriously.”

This calligraphy hangs in our hombu dojo: 風林火山 Fūrinkazan (wind forest fire mountain). It means, "We come like the wind; we are as quiet as the forest; we are as fierce as fire; we are as immovable as the mountain."

It comes from Sun Tzu's Art of War. The Takeda clan had it on their battle standards.

Clayton, we've come a long way together. I tried my best to teach you karate; you taught me what it means to be a good man. Thank you for being in our dojo and in my life.

A family of three who train with us in Edmonton are in Japan for a few weeks and visited the Hirakata Seibukan dojo. They were treated warmly and generously by the instructors and students there.

I am grateful and proud to belong to the international Seibukan family.

Congratulations to online student Dr Vishaal Rajani, who tested successfully for 7 kyū this morning from his home in North Vancouver.

This is what Zenpō Sensei taught me. It's what I'm trying to teach.

Because a lot of people out there really need to learn it.

Seibukan Karate Dojo

In summer, we train outdoors.

There, we feel a tangible connection to ti, the Okinawan predecessor to modern karate, which was often practiced outside.
