Just two old friends, 75 and almost 71, still on the dojo floor and doing the best they can.
Traditional Okinawan karate fighting for a better world. Our dojo is in Strathcona High School, in south-central Edmonton.
We are a provincially-registered non-profit, and chartered by the International Okinawan Shorin-ryu Seibukan Karate Association.

Last night's training. We're at NAIT until October, when we'll return to Scona.
We welcomed Vancouver online student Vishaal and his father Hasu. Hasu and I trained for years together in a previous style. He is a professor of pediatrics and one of the best humans on the planet. I am so happy to have him try our karate.

My karate is Okinawan. I live in a beleaguered Alberta, but my family and my dojo will always be unabashedly Canadian.

My little dojo on an overcast Saturday morning.
The Seibukan Karate Dojo in Edmonton mourns the passing of King Harald of Norway.
He made a speech in 2016 in which he said,
"Norwegians are people from the north, people from the south, and people from all other regions of Norway. Norwegians are also immigrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Poland, Sweden, Somalia, and Syria...What we call home is where our heart is."
The real spirit of Seibukan is diversity, equity, and inclusion. Racism and anti-immigrant bigotry have no place in our karate.
