Golden Bears Hockey is proud to announce the commitment of Zane Saab for the 2026-27 season!

Saab is a dynamic forward who had an impressive 2025-26 campaign with the Wenatchee Wild. As an Assistant Captain he tallied 20 points through 61 regular season games. Zane’s 200 foot game delivers both defensive upside and offensive punch, adding another layer to the Bears forward core.

Golden Bears Hockey is proud to announce the commitment of Dwayne Jean Jr. for the 2026-27 season!

Jean Jr. is a powerful forward who spent the 2025-26 campaign with the MacEwan Griffins Men's Hockey. After posting 17 points in 25 games last season, Dwayne’s much anticipated arrival helps bring size, speed, and unrelenting offence to the Bears forward core.

Today we say thank you to three remarkable people who helped shape Golden Bears Hockey into the program it is today.

Stan Marple
After 21 years as a Player, Assistant Coach, Head Coach, and General Manager, Stan Marple is moving on from Golden Bears Hockey. A part of five National Championships, Stan’s leadership, passion, and commitment to the program has left a lasting legacy on Bears Hockey. He built relationships, created opportunities, and cared deeply about every player, coach, alumnus, and supporter who walked through Clare Drake Arena. Thank you, Stan. Your impact will be felt for generations.

Florante Macapagal
After 31 years at the University of Alberta, including 15 seasons with Golden Bears Hockey, Flo will be departing the program. Flo has been the definition of dedication. From Equipment Manager and Zamboni Driver to Outdoor Field and Arena Manager, he did every job with pride and humility. A part of six National Championships alongside coaches Rob Daum, Eric Thurston, Serge Lajoie, and Ian Herbers, Flo’s behind-the-scenes commitment helped build this program. Thank you for every early morning, late night, and everything in between.

Travis Stewart
After five seasons as a Student Kinesiologist, Trainer, and Equipment Manager, Travis leaves an incredible mark on the Bears program. His passion, humour, honesty, and ability to connect with fellas made Golden Bears Hockey a better place every day. He cared about the people behind the sweaters (you’re welcome Shutty) and supported an environment players and staff loved being part of. Thank you, Travis, for your energy, authenticity, and unwavering commitment.

Dick is a cerebral defensemen who spent the past two seasons in the NCAA Division 1 with Alaska Nanooks Hockey. Along with being a huge asset on the defensive end, Caelum joins his brother Connor to strengthen the Bears roster.

Masters is a dominant defensemen who spent the 2025-26 campaign with the Wichita Thunder. Following three successful seasons of professional hockey, Kyle arrives at the University of Alberta, adding elite playmaking ability and a dynamic offensive presence to the Bears strong defensive core.

Hutchinson is a skilled forward who spent the past two seasons in the NCAA Division 1 with Northern Michigan Hockey. Aidyn is a smart player that has a great ability to execute and can play a 200-foot game.

Yakimchuk had an incredible 3 seasons with the , posting 8 goals and 22 assists this past year. The physical defensemen had an amazing 2025-26 campaign leading the Bombers to a SJHL Canterra Seeds Cup and an impressive showing at the CJHL Centennial Cup. Pierce joins his older brother Aiden as the two look to dominate the blue line this upcoming season!
