Highlighting the biodiversity crisis, through an athletic endeavour, following the Pacific Flyway

04/25/2026

End of April in Alberta… and it feels like winter never left.

For birds, weather isn’t just small talk—it’s survival. Migration is timed with precision, guided by daylight and instinct. But climate change is throwing that timing off.

When cold snaps, snow, and strong winds hit later than expected:
• Birds arrive to frozen ground with little food
• Insects they rely on haven’t emerged yet
• Energy reserves drop fast after long migrations
• Nesting gets delayed—or fails entirely

Many migratory species travel thousands of kilometers expecting spring… not another winter storm.

Climate change isn’t just warming—it’s unpredictability. And for birds, timing is everything.

If we want to keep seeing these incredible species overhead, we need to protect the systems they depend on.

🌍 Earth Month

This July, Wings of Survival begins a 30,000 km ride from Alaska to Patagonia—following the Pacific Flyway alongside migratory birds.

We’ll ride through the realities of climate change, witnessing the ecosystems that connect their survival to ours.

Protect what protects us.

Did you know?

The Bar-tailed Godwit holds the record for the longest non-stop flight—13,560 km.

And the Whimbrel isn’t far behind—flying thousands of kilometers non-stop over the open ocean, guided by wind and Earth’s natural cues 🌍

Climate change will directly impact how, when, and if we can keep moving.

As we cycle from Alaska to Patagonia:

🔥 Wildfires may force us off route completely, shutting down roads and putting entire regions out of reach
🌫️ Smoke and air pollution will affect our lungs, recovery, and daily performance—turning simple ride days into real health risks
⛈️ Extreme weather—heatwaves, storms, flooding—could delay us, damage gear, and challenge our safety

This means missed miles, rerouted plans, and days where pushing forward might not be an option.

And what we experience as athletes is only a fraction of the bigger picture.

The same fires, polluted air, and unstable weather are impacting wildlife, ecosystems, and communities along the entire Pacific Flyway. The health of these environments is deeply connected to our own ability to move, breathe, and live.

Can you guess how many countries we’ll cross cycling from Alaska to Patagonia? 🌎

From Arctic tundra to dense rainforests, towering mountain ranges to vast grasslands—we’ll ride through some of the most unique ecosystems on Earth. Each one plays a critical role in keeping our planet (and us) healthy. Clean air, fresh water, biodiversity… it’s all connected.

As we move through these landscapes, we’re reminded that protecting these ecosystems isn’t just about wildlife—it’s about our own survival too. 🌱

Every pedal stroke is a reminder: when nature thrives, we thrive.

We are starting our expedition at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the northernmost road-accessible point in North America.

Did you know this Arctic coastal plain sits beside the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, one of the most important wildlife habitats on Earth?

Every summer, millions of migratory birds from all six continents travel here to breed and raise their young before flying south across the Americas. Some of these same birds will follow the Pacific Flyway all the way to South America — the very route we’ll be cycling.

This fragile Arctic ecosystem also supports polar bears, caribou, wolves, muskoxen, and over 170 bird species that rely on these tundra wetlands for survival.

What happens here doesn’t stay here. The Arctic plays a critical role in regulating Earth’s climate, storing vast amounts of carbon in frozen permafrost and helping stabilize global weather systems that humans depend on.

From this remote edge of the continent, our journey begins — following the birds, telling their story, and reminding people that protecting nature protects us all.

Wings of Survival is about driving impact through storytelling, education, and science—and inviting people like you to be part of something bigger.

On July 1, we begin a 30,000 km journey by bike from Alaska to Patagonia, following the path of migratory birds along the Pacific Flyway to highlight the incredible connections between nature, wildlife, and human well-being.

Through this expedition, we’ll share stories from the road, connect with scientists and communities, and inspire action to protect the ecosystems that we all depend on.

We are beyond excited to partner with !

We’ll be hosting upcoming events in their stores and couldn’t imagine a better fit. Their mission says it all:

“Preserving and protecting the environment. We believe in a shared responsibility to safeguard the future of our planet.”

Community. Conservation. Collective impact.

When brands and athletes come together with a shared purpose, powerful things happen 🌎

Stay tuned for event dates — we can’t wait to connect in person!
