We are extremely saddened to share the passing of lesson horse Reighven.
Reighven was a morgan mare who found her way to WELCA in 2022. Prior to her arrival, she used to do some dressage and pleasure riding with her owner who had her for 21 years before she kindly leased her to WELCA. She originally came to WELCA with another horse, but she was quick to make friends (and boss them around) with Peanut and Luke.
When Reighven first joined lessons she was very quick and found it difficult to slow down but over time she settled nicely into her job as a lesson horse (though she never did lose her love of going fast). She was a confident mare who took care of all of her riders and her zippy trot always left everyone with a smile! She was many students first horse they learned to ride on and was a favourite among many.
You could always tell Reighven was in the arena by the drool puddles scattered around and when leading her you had to be cautious if she shook her head while you were in the “splash zone”. Despite being well known for her drool, her lovely attitude, kindness and patience made everyone fall in love and forgive the fact that you may end up covered in some slobber!
Reighven will be greatly missed by staff and students alike. We were so lucky to have such a caring and trustworthy mare in our program. May she forever roam greener pastures❤️

Rainy days mean the horses make the most of their shelters! Although, Luke likes to take advantage and cool off instead!

Did you know the average horse drinks 5-10 gallons of water a day? That’s the same amount as 40 glasses of water!
To keep our four legged friends hydrated, they have constant access to water in their pens with either a trough or automatic waterer as well as buckets in the stalls that get filled with fresh water each morning!
As the days get hotter, you are sure to see our barn staff team keeping the waters topped up and clean!
