Can you feel the beat? Get those little ones grooving to the beat!

Did you know research has discovered that an individual's ability to play the beat or rhythm patterns has a direct correlation to enhanced athletic performance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rhythmic movement is begin infancy. After learning how identify beat, Babies work will naturally work on the ability to move to the beat. Exposure to a steady beat in music teaches babies how to deliberately move, by using the time between each beat to move their limbs or bodies at a faster or slower speed. This supports the development of body awareness, control and coordination, all skills that promote proprioception. Beat can help babies learn to move with intention! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Moving to the beat synchronizes the parts of the brain responsible for hearing as well as movement. This is key in children’s development of physical literacy skills. Children need an awareness of beat to coordinate their own movements. Walking, running, jumping, hopping, galloping, and skipping all require the ability to move to and maintain a steady beat. Without the ability to maintain an internal beat, children will struggle with body control and coordination which can negatively impact their self-esteem and ability to connect confidently with their peers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are so many fun and simple ways to explore beat with babies and young children! It can be as simple as putting on a piece of music and bouncing your baby on your knee or dancing with them in arms to the beat. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Toddlers love playing along to music by shaking, patting, or striking instruments to the beat or clapping, stomping, rocking, or bouncing along to favourite songs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Preschoolers are ready to try combining fast and slow beats on simple instruments to create rhythm patterns and can work on doing simple movements like marching, running, tiptoeing, jumping or galloping to the beat of music. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In all these situations, children’s learning is best supported by active modelling from a loving adult.
