Happy Thanksgiving!

As we head into the Thanksgiving weekend, a time of reflecting and sharing gratitude, MWSA would like to take a moment to thank the community for your support. As a nonprofit organization, it takes a lot of hard work and operating funds to run a busy seniors centre of over 1200 members. Lately, we are most grateful to the following supporters:

1. MWSA Rummage Sale community members who donated household goods, shoppers, and volunteers, helping to raise over $16,117.00 in revenue at the two-day sale in September! This major fundraiser was a big success because of YOUR support.

2. Volunteers who worked the Argyll Casino in September. This is another major fundraising event for MWSA.

3. Regular MWSA volunteers who come to the centre each and every week to donate their time and talents. Your loyalty and dedication to the centre are inspiring. We still have on our roster volunteers who have been with MWSA since 2015, the year we moved into its current location above the library.

4. MWSA members and reciprocal members who participate in the centre's programs, particularly the members who take 2-4 registered classes per session and stay for coffee and/or lunch each week.

5. Community members who have rented space in our facility, especially the long-term rentals. The extra revenue goes back to support MWSA programs and services.

6. Donors who have recently made financial contributions to the centre. Remember, any donation of $25 or more will receive an official tax receipt.

Your presence and contributions are much appreciated and the reason for our success. Thank you for choosing MWSA as your favourite seniors centre to support!

Did you know? In addition to our programs at the centre, we also plan outings to local city attractions and other places of interest.

On October 8, MWSA is transporting our seniors to the Edmonton Public Library Whitemud theatre for an afternoon of learning and conversation with the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council. This event, including the chartered bus transportation, is FREE for all seniors, thanks to the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council!

Date: Thursday, October 8, 2026
Time: Bus to leave MWSA at 12:15 pm and return to MWSA by 4:30 pm.
Event: Short films and discussion, refreshments, and bus transportation.

To register, call MWSA at 780-496-2997 by the end of day, October 1st, 2026. All seniors welcome.

Our Fall Rummage Sale was a big success thanks to the volunteers, shoppers, and people who donated!

We do have some leftover clothing that we are looking to donate. Are there any organizations, non-profits, church groups, or other people in need who would be interested in our leftover clothing (about 20 garbage bags)? Must take all and pick up only.

We are so thankful for all the community members who have donated to our Rummage Sale and also to the volunteers who have been working hard the last 2+ weeks to get ready for MWSA's biggest fundraiser of the year.

If you are decluttering, the deadline to bring your household items is WEDNESDAY, SEPT 23, 2026.

Friday, Sept 18- 8:30 am-4:30 pm
Saturday, Sept 19-9:00 am-1:30 pm
Monday, Sept 21-Wednesday, Sept 23: 8:30 am-4:30 pm

As a nonprofit organization, we are immensely grateful for our roster of 200+ volunteers who give their time and talents in helping a small team of staff run a busy seniors centre. With over 75+ programs each programming season and over 1200 members, it takes a village to keep the centre running smoothly.

Last week, staff hosted our Annual Volunteer Appreciation to celebrate the volunteers and their important contributions in the past year. It was a fun evening featuring a custom taco bar, an ice cream sundae bar for dessert, dance lessons featuring two MWSA instructors, glitter tattoos, a henna artist, a caricature artist, photo booth, door prizes, and more!

In total, in 2025, all volunteers contributed over 30,000 hours. At a value of $20 per hour, that represents more than $600,000 in community contribution. The dollar amount is substantial, but the impact is beyond amazing!

Thank you, MWSA volunteers, for your hard work, commitment, and dedication.
