University Of Alberta Powerlifting Association Creating strong students, alumni, and community members Last year, Powersurge was the largest powerlifting meet in Alberta, featuring over 60 athletes.

The University of Alberta Powerlifting Association (UAPA) has been a sports club through Recreation Services on the University of Alberta campus. Established in 2005, the club encourages students in the pursuit of strength, safety, and technique in powerlifting, olympic lifting, and strongman. Our club supports amateur athletes in training and competition and has produced athletes who have competed at the provincial, national, and world levels. Each winter, the University of Alberta Powerlifting Association hosts a local powerlifting meet at the Universiade Pavilion called “Powersurge”. Through funding from the University Campus Recreation Enhancement Fund, the UAPA has put together one of the best weightlifting gyms in the country. The UAPA has a huge collection of top of the line olympic and powerlifting bars, bumper plates, and calibrated metal plates. The club also has six competition-level powerlifting racks, two squat cages, four Olympic platforms, sleds, and kettlebells. Members have exclusive access to this incredible equipment during club training times. The UAPA supports the Canadian Center for Ethics in Sport and the World Anti Doping Agency. Our lifters compete in drug-tested meets and promote natural athletic performance.

A powerlifting meet doesn’t happen without the people behind the scenes. Our volunteers are a huge part of making Powersurge XVI run smoothly, and we can’t do it without you!

If you’re available to help out on meet day, we’d love to have you on the team!

🎁 All volunteers receive:
👕 Volunteer shirt
🍪 Snacks
🥪 Lunch

We’ll also keep track of all volunteer hours for those who need documentation for CANPL Nationals qualifier requirements.

Registration for Powersurge XVI is officially LIVE!

📋 Two separate registration forms:
• 3-Lift
• Bench Only

👉 Want to compete in both? You must fill out BOTH forms.

💰 Event Fees:
• 3-Lift (56 lifter max) — $160
• Bench Only (14 lifter max) — $100
• Both — $260

⚠️ Before you register: Make sure you have your CANPL membership number + a copy of your CANPL membership card ready to upload. Also know your weight class and age class! Having these prepared will help ensure a smooth registration process!

Remember that the CCR fee and club membership fee are TWO different fees paid seperately. One goes directly to CCR (the $10 / semester) and the other (club membership fee) gets e-transferred directly to us at [email protected] or paid at your orientation.
