We are incredibly grateful to 124 Street & Area for once again inviting Cuban Movements to be part of this wonderful community celebration this past Saturday. It was an honor to share the joy, energy, and richness of Cuban dance and culture with the people of Edmonton. Every opportunity to connect through music and dance reminds us why we do what we love, and we are thankful to everyone who joined us for such a memorable day. ❤️🇨🇺

A very special thank you goes to our director, Leo González, for inviting his students to be part of this beautiful experience. Thank you for your passion, vision, and dedication to preserving and sharing the authenticity of Cuban culture through dance, while creating opportunities for your students to grow, perform, and be part of something meaningful.

We also want to recognize our amazing student dancers and team members — Cecilia, Diana, Gal, Graham, Jackie, Jenna, Maziel, Pam, Phay, and Sharlene. Thank you for saying yes to this opportunity, for your commitment, enthusiasm, and willingness to step on stage and represent Cuban Movements. Whether this was your very first performance or one of many, each of you brought your own unique energy, heart, and personality, making this showcase truly special. Together, we continue building a welcoming community where Cuban music, dance, and culture can be celebrated, experienced, and shared with everyone.

A heartfelt thank you to Vivian for capturing so many wonderful moments on video and helping us preserve these memories so we can continue sharing them with our community.

Finally, thank you to everyone who stopped by, watched our performances, danced with us, applauded, and celebrated alongside us. Your encouragement and support mean the world to us and inspire us to continue sharing the beauty, traditions, and spirit of Cuban culture with Edmonton.

Stay tuned as we share more videos and content from this past Saturday’s performances. These are just a few fragments of a day filled with music, culture, community, and unforgettable memories. 🇨🇺💃🕺

Another unforgettable moment from our Afro-Cuban & Rumba workshop this past Thursday with master percussionist Toto Berriel, alongside Luis Tovar and Raúl Tabera, sharing rhythm, history, and the energy that lives at the heart of Cuban culture.

This particular moment was dedicated to the energy of Oyá — the queen of storms, winds, and lightning, a powerful force of transformation and change in Afro-Cuban tradition.

At Cuban Movements, our approach is not religious. Rather, we believe in the importance of understanding and connecting with the roots of the art forms we practice and share. For our Artistic Director, Leo González, honoring and respecting his Afro-Cuban heritage is an essential part of preserving the traditions and cultural expressions that have shaped Cuban history, music and dance for generations.

Through movement, rhythm, and community, we celebrate these traditions with respect, gratitude, and deep appreciation for the culture that inspires them.

What an unforgettable evening was lived in our studio this past Thursday! 🇨🇺🥁✨

Cuban Movements Non Profit had the honor of welcoming Master Percussionist Toto Berriel to our studio alongside our director Leo Gonzalez for an incredible Afro-Cuban and Rumba workshop.

From the rhythms of the drums to the stories behind the movements, we laughed, learned, connected, and immersed ourselves in the beauty of Cuban culture and traditions. The energy in the room was pure Cuba — vibrant, joyful, and full of soul.

A heartfelt thank you to Cecilia Ferreyra, member of our team and of the Cuban Movements Nonprofit, for the coordination and dedication in helping make this beautiful experience possible.

A special thank you to Raul Tabera (Cuba) and Luis Tovar (Venezuela), two of today’s leading Latin percussionists, for joining Master Percussionist Toto Berriel in this beautiful musical encounter and enriching the experience with their talent, energy, and passion for our culture.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who joined us and shared this special experience. These are the moments that remind us that dance is more than movement — it is culture, community, and connection. ❤️🇨🇺🔥

A special father-and-daughter moment captured at the Thousand Faces Festival.

Beyond the performance itself, it was a beautiful reminder of how passion, art, and culture can be passed from one generation to the next. Moments like these become lasting memories and inspire future generations to keep traditions alive.

We take this opportunity to wish a Happy Father’s Day to Leo Leonardo Gonzalez and to all the amazing fathers and father figures who inspire, guide, support, and lead by example every day!

Inspired by the powerful song “Yemaya (Ile Ladde)” by Okan featuring Rauzzy Ferrer., this piece explores the many faces of Yemayá, strength, wisdom, love, and resilience. Directed and choreographed by Leo González, it featured Cecilia Ferreyra, Vivian Biancardi, Nicole, Sotonwa, Leo Gonzalez, and the debut of Mia Gonzalez.

Beyond the performance, these are the moments that become lasting memories for the dancers, for a daughter sharing the stage with her father, and for everyone who experienced this beautiful energy. 💙🌊✨
