When a roller coaster malfunction left riders stranded high above the ground, Galveston, TX Local 571 answered the call. Members relied on their training, teamwork, and composure to bring every rider down safely. It was a busy weekend for our fire crews, including a little bit of unexpected llama drama! 🦙 On Sunday morning, firefighters were called out to help a llama named Runner who had fallen into a 3-meter-deep sinkhole. When the crew arrived, they realized the opening was far too small to safely pull him out. Our team worked quickly to pivot. They coordinated a mini excavator, checked with utilities to make sure digging was safe, and called in our specialized Technical Rescue Team. Safety is always our top priority and the scene was carefully managed to protect the rescuers, bystanders, and our new friend Runner. Once the excavator safely dug out enough room, the firefighters and Technical Rescue Team used specialized rescue slings to lift Runner back to solid ground. We are pleased to report that the rescue was a total success and Runner strutted away without injury. A huge shoutout to 2 Platoon’s Pump 18, the Technical Rescue Team, and all others involved in this llamazing outcome! #yeg #yegfire #yegfirefighters

As part of the State Youth Fire Department Day and the city festival, we successfully established the longest tensioned high-angle rope rescue system ever constructed for a personnel rescue operation. The system spanned an impressive 173 metres (568 feet).

The two anchor points were set from the roof of the Panorama Tower to a HLF 20 (Heavy Rescue Pumper) positioned at ground level.

Following the setup, a rope rescue technician safely lowered a victim to the ground using the system.

Weltrekord! Anlässlich des Landesjugendfeuerwehrtages und des Stadtfestes errichteten wir heute das längste gespannte Schrägseil zur Personenrettung aller Zeiten. Dabei erreichten wir eine beeindruckende Länge von 173 Metern. Die beiden Festpunkte wurden vom Dach des Panorama Towers bis zu einem HLF 20 gespannt. Anschließend wurde ein Höhenretter, samt zu rettender Person zu Boden gebracht. Starke Leistung! Vielen Dank an Aroundtown, Eigentümer des City Towers, für die tolle Zusammenarbeit. NM
