A year ago the divorce papers were finally signed. Quite the anticlimactic process… *hoping you’ve never experienced it.
No pomp and circumstance. No celebration or congratulations.
A call from my lawyer. A conversation I can’t even recall the details of - although I remember her telling me to go home & spend time with my kids.
Sitting in this exact car, I took a deep breath, pulled out of the courthouse parking lot, whispered a prayer for strength, picked up breakfast for the kids, and drove home.
A year later, I’m living a life I never imagined… still trying to wrap my mind around 2 decades of time that will forever contain the most precious memories of my life & the biggest heartache.
The emotional rollercoaster is exactly that!
I say all that to say this… maybe to my former self or to someone else sitting in my same position.
I’m truly ok.
My kids are really ok too.
The pets…. well, they are skating on thin ice!! (Jk, kind of!!)😉
But I’m doing the things. We are doing the things. And living life.
You will be ok too!!!
Signing of the decree is a milestone. The real healing can begin. But it doesn’t define you.
What you do next… and everyday thereafter is what matters.
I’m 1 year in… and I have an even greater appreciation for my family, my friends, the people who have stayed in my boat along side of me. Some days quite literally dragging me forward.
And I am even more grateful for the little things that are honestly the big things. Cliche, I know!!!
Time with my kids. The absolute rat race of 3 busy, thriving teenagers/preteens who have lots of hobbies & interests. Purposeful work. A healthy body. Traveling to beautiful places. Coffee. Sunsets. Pretty flowers.
And a fresh blonde blowout.
I’m not saying it will solve all your problems. But feeling pampered is certainly a great way to honor the day.
A day that will forever cause me to reflect & look forward with anticipation.
Maybe the best is yet to come…
