On National Truth and Reconciliation Day we’d like to take a moment to recognize that Race Crew practices on the traditional territories of the qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən̓ and q̓ic̓əy̓ First Nations. We often hear the words Paddle’s Up when we’re in the boat, did you know that traditionally the Coast Salish culture canoe families would raise their paddles up as they approached another Nation as a sign of peace and to ask permission to come ashore. The song on the post comes from the Williams family, many of whom are from q̓ic̓əy̓ First Nations.
