The Fort St. John Senior Flyers handed out the club’s post season awards on Saturday, July 4, at the Fort St. John Links Golf Club

Lee Hartman, the general manager for the Flyers, said some scheduling commitments from some players made the banquet’s summertime date necessary.

He added the time with the players who came was “great,” with around half of last season’s roster making appearances.

“It is hard to get everybody together,” Hartman said. “We were missing quite a few players. We probably had half the team there.”

Hartman added the banquet was “also for volunteers and players’ wives, not just players. Awards were handed out, and many of the award winners were not there, so that is too bad.”

Fresh off his NPHL rookie of the year campaign in 2024-25, forward Aiden Craig-Steele was selected as the club’s regular-season most valuable player.

The 26-year-old exceeded his totals from one year before, scoring eight goals and adding 12 assists for 20 points in just 11 regular-season contests before an injury forced him out of the playoffs.

“[Craig-Steele] was off to a great year,” said Hartman. “It ended early with an injury that did not allow him to play in the playoffs. We really missed his offensive power when it came to playing Dawson Creek.”

The team’s rookie of the year was defenceman Kaden Arberry. Fresh from graduating from the Fort St. John Huskies junior hockey program, Arberry had one assist in 11 appearances in the regular season.

In the playoffs, he provided solid performances on the defensive side of the game versus the Dawson Creek Canucks.

“[Arberry] became available when the Huskies had their reduction in the roster,” said Hartman. “He fit in very well on our defence, and with the club overall. [The team] is looking forward to him continuing to develop.”

The Flyers had another rebuilding season, finishing with a 5-11 record in 2025-26 and losing to the Dawson Creek Canucks in five games in the opening round of the NPHL playoffs.

Next season, the team will be looking to replace several key players, including captain Cayle Bell, who has moved away.

“We are sure hoping that there’s a good turnout in training camp of new guys that are coming to town,” said Hartman. “There are some younger guys that are coming back to town, and they should be able to step in and help us.”

The Fort St. John Senior Flyers Hockey Club held their 2025-2026 season windup banquet and awards night on Saturday July 4th at the FSJ Links Golf Course Clubhouse.
The event was very well attended by Executive members, Coaches, Players and Volunteers. We all enjoyed a wonderful meal and a fun evening.

96. Adam Horst

Adam Horst was named Best Centre twice in his career, in 2013-14 and 2016-17, the same years he was chosen to the West Division All-Star Team. A graduate of the Fort St. John Flyers Under 18 team and the Fort St. John Huskies of the North West Junior Hockey League from 2004-05 to 2005-06, Horst later played from 2009-10 to 2022-23 with Fort St. John, except for 2011-12 at Dawson Creek. He was remarkably consistent posting career numbers of 125-139-264 points in 139 for an average of 1.90 points per game. He also led Fort St. John in scoring twice and posted only 100 PIMs for his career, or less than one minute per game. Despite never playing more than 20 games in a season, Horst scored at least 10 goals six times and 25 points five times. He was a member of Fort St. John’s title -winning team in 2017-18 and Lawrence Cup winning teams in 2016-17 and 2017-18 for placing first overall in the standings. Only the powerhouse Spirit River teams of his era stopped him and Fort St. John from more NPHL accolades. And a league rule disqualifying teams such as Fort St. John who entered Allan Cup playoffs. However, Horst was part of Fort St. John’s prestigious Allan Cup champion team in 2009-10, the only NPHL team to win the national title.

76. Adam Loncan

Adam Loncan enjoyed a short but brilliant career in the NPHL playing only seven years, 2007-08 and 2008-09 in Fort St. John and 2009-10 to 2013-14 in Dawson Creek. Loncan played junior with the Prince George Spruce Kings, Prince George Cougars and Grande Prairie Storm from 1995-96 to 1999-2000. After playing at Mount Royal College, he played with the University of Calgary from 2003-04 to 2004-05, then with the Odessa Jackalopes and Rocky Mountain Rage in the Central Hockey League from 2005-06 to 2006-07 before coming north to join Fort St. John. Loncan was named Best Defenceman in 2009-10 and selected to four West Division All-Star Teams in five years on defence. He also won two Most Gentlemanly Player Awards in 2011-12 and 2013-14 in Dawson Creek. He scored only 38 goals but added 162 assists for 200 points in only 117 games played, for an average of 1.71 points per game. Loncan, an exceptional passer and playmaker, was only assessed 76 PIMs his entire career, or just over 10 minutes per season. He helped anchor Fort St. John’s defence to the league title in 2008-09, their first in league history. He also played on two Lawrence Cup winning teams in Fort St. John in 2007-08 and 2008-09. Loncan was on the Flyers’ team that won the 2010 Allan Cup title on home ice with a 4-1 win over the Bentley Generals. FSJ remains the only NPHL team to win the Allan Cup.

60. Todd Alexader

Born and raised in Fort St. John, Todd Alexander played with the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in 1997-98 to 1999-2000. He then left for the University of New Brunswick to play collegiate hockey from 2000-01 to 2002-03, then spent 2003-04 to 2005-06 in the East Coast Hockey League with the Bakersfield Condors, Dayton Bombers and Las Vegas Wranglers. He returned to Fort St. John from 2006-07 to 2012-13 to play with the Flyers. The first three years after his return the Flyers won the Lawrence Cup for placing first overall in the league. He led the Flyers in scoring three times in his seven years and was twice named Best Right Winger. He was selected to three All-Star Teams, twice at right wing and once on left wing. Alexander was on the Flyers’ team that won the 2010 Allan Cup title on home ice with a 4-1 win over the Bentley Generals. FSJ remains the only NPHL team to win the Allan Cup. He was also part of FSJ’s NPHL title team in 2008-09. No telling how many more titles FSJ would have won if they had not chosen to register AAA and qualified for league playoffs. In his career, he recorded 94-122-216 points for an average of 1.86 PPG. His numbers would surely be better had FSJ played more regular season games and not competed in the tough West Division.
