This morning, I had the opportunity to share a message with young leaders in Latin America. A message I wish I had heard when I was growing up.

Confidence isn’t about knowing it all; it’s about believing in your God-given potential—what you can do—while not worrying about your weaknesses and being open to learn. Confidence is not acting like you know it all, being ignorant, or refusing to learn from others—that’s arrogance.

I still remember my first English class during my first year of university. Each student was asked to stand up and introduce themselves. I was so afraid because I had never had the chance to:
1. Talk about myself
2. Speak in front of many people. So, I resisted getting up and introducing myself. That habit continued throughout my university years, and even when I knew the answers to the question or had an opportunity to share my experiences, I didn’t take those chances to build my confidence.

Confidence doesn’t appear momentarily or come from perfection; it comes from believing in God-given potential, taking small steps towards your goal and being willing to learn and grow.
