Day two of the National Championships was a hard day for the Club. Each of our three fighters had some ups and downs, with strong wins and hard fought/heartbreaking losses.

First up in the morning, we had Momo stepping up into a stacked U21 -57kg division. Her day started with a hard fought, closely contested match that she would eventually lose by yuko. She bounced back with a quick choke, but then lost her final fight of day by yuko in another closly contested match.

Hiro and Adam were up next in U16 -60kg and U16 -55kg. Hiro started off with a hard fought loss by yuko in golden score to the eventual Silver medalist. He then won his next two matches with some very quick, big throws for Ippon. His day would then end with another golden score yuko loss to the eventual Bronze medalist.

Adam had an almost identical day, losing his first match where he put in a scrappy performance before getting caught in a choke. He then also came back and won his next two matches with quick, big throws for Ippon. His day would end in his next match, when he zigged when he should have zagged, getting caught for Ippon.

Results:
Momo, U21 -57kg: 1-2
Hiro, U18 -60kg: 2-2
Adam, U18 -55kg: 2-2

This concluded the clubs day with 5 wins and 6 losses. Tomorrow we have Andrew fighting in Senior +100kg.

What a first day for the Club at the National Championships! Today we had two athletes competing in the U18 age category. Momo was fighting in the women's -57kg division, while Hiro fought in the men's -60kg division.

Hiro, a first year U16 athlete, stepped up to test himself in U18. By luck of the draw, he started his day against the current U18 -60kg Pan-American champion, and eventual gold medalistof the category. Hiro put fourth an excellent performance, staying competitive in the match and lasting until the final 18 seconds. He then fought another second year U18 athlete where he again put on an impressive performance, going the distance and coming very close to tying the score in the last few exchanges. For Hiro, the goal in this category was to gain experience with the main focus coming tomorrow in U16. And he not only gained the experience we wanted, but did so with an impressive performance.

Momo started her day off with a bang, earning a very quick armbar victory in her first match. She then ran into some adversity in her second match, where though she was competitive, she was eventually overcome by the athlete who would claim the Gold later in the day. Once in the repecharge, Momo bounced back with three more quick armbar victories earning a shot at the Bronze medal. In the fight for Bronze, Momo's newaza was again on full display as she earned her 5th armbar win of the day and the Bronze medal!!! Congratulations Momo!!!

We also want to give a shout out to Zoe and our friends at the Otoshi Judo Club, as she claimed the title of National Champion in -48kg!!!

Results:
Momo, U18 -57kg: Bronze (5-1)
Hiro, U18 -60kg: (0-2)

Tomorrow we have three fighters competing, as Momo steps up an age category to U21, while Hiro and Adam compete in U16 -60kg and -55kg respectively. Let's go team!!!

Day 2 at the Eastern Canadian Championships saw U16 fighting in the morning block, and senior in the afternoon.

In the morning block we had Philippe fighting in yellow-orange -50kg division, Adam in the -55kg division, and Hiro in the -60kg division.

Philippe started with a competitive match where he pulled off a well timed waza-ari late in the match to secure the win. He then lost a closely contested match earning him the Bronze.

Adam came our of the gates blazing, scoring a quick Ippon in his first match before enduring a war of a semi finals, winning by waza-ari and two yukos to one waza-ari. He then ran into some adversity against a very skilled opponent in the finals, ending his day with a well deserved Silver.

Hiro also got off to a flying start, wining his first match quickly with some slick newaza before beating the U18 Silver medalist by Ippon in the semi finals. Hiro then had a barn-burner of a finals match that had both fighters throwing attack after attack. Unfortunately Hiro was overcome in the end of a very closely contested match, losing by two yukos, ending with a well deserved Silver Medal.

In the Senior block Momo's off weekend continued. While she did come close to securing wins in both her matches, she unfortunately fell short.

Results:
U16
Philippe y/o -50kg Silver (1-1)
Adam -55kg Silver (2-1)
Hiro -60kg Silver (2-1)
Senior
Momo -57kg (0-2)

This concludes our weekend with 2 Gold, 3 Silver, and a Bronze, with a combined record of 10 wins and 10 losses.

Well that is the first day finished at the Eastern Canadian Judo Championships. Today had its share of ups and downs, with the U14 and U18 categories fighting. To start things off, we had three fighters in the U14 yellow-orange belt divisions.

First up was Daniel fighting in -50kg (he was moved up from his -46kgs division). Daniel showed great tenacity and grit, winning his first two fights by ippon, before losing his last match by decision. Unfortunately there was a little mix up at the podium, as the results of his matches were recorded incorrectly, having him finish Silver, but once that was worked out he is coming home with the Gold and a 2-1 record.

Next up was Benjamin in the -55kg division. Benjamin won both is fights in short order with big ippon throws, claiming the Gold (2-0).

Last up in U14 was Yuri in the -44kg division, fighting in her very first National level event. Yuri fought very well, getting an early lead in both her matches with some nice throws. Unfortunately she ended up getting caught late in each of her matches leaving her with a hard fought 2nd place.

In the afternoon block, we had Momo competing in U18 -57kg. Some days you are on, and some days you are off. Unfortunately today was an off day for Momo. While she managed to win her first match, guaranteeing she would make the crossovers, she ran into adversity in her next two fights, leaving her with Bronze and a 1-2 record.

Tomorrow we have Adam, Hiro, and Philippe competing in U16, while Momo steps up to compete in Senior.

As always, we are very proud of all the athletes and the effort they put forth!
