Welcome to Champions Hockey, Jake Bullen!

Jake Bullen has joined Champions Hockey Academy as a Senior Instructor, bringing more than 10 years of coaching experience across grassroots, AAA, prep school and Junior A hockey.

Currently an Assistant Coach with the Grand Falls Rapids of the MHL, Jake has built his coaching career around helping players develop their skills and understanding of the game. His previous roles include U15 Prep Head Coach and Program Coordinator at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, Head of Hockey Development with Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs, and Head Coach of the Dartmouth Voyageurs U16 AAA.

He has also coached in the CCHL, worked with Team Nova Scotia’s U14 staff at the Atlantic Challenge Cup, and helped lead Ottawa Myers Automotive U14 AAA to league and playoff championships in 2022–23. Along the way, he has coached players who have progressed to prep school, Junior A, major junior and college hockey.

Jake brings a player’s perspective to his coaching as well, having captained the Bridgewater Lumberjacks in the MHL before playing U SPORTS hockey at the Royal Military College of Canada.

His approach combines individual skill development, hockey sense, decision-making and position-specific coaching, with an emphasis on helping players understand the “why” behind what they do on the ice. That focus fits well with how we approach development at Champions.

During the winter season, Jake will focus on programming in the Woodstock and Florenceville area, where he has already begun working with local associations to deliver player skill development and coaching clinics.

Once the MHL season concludes, Jake will lead skill development sessions for our spring programs. Throughout the summer, players will also have the opportunity to work with him at our summer camps, Advanced Performance Academy daytime programs and evening clinics.

We’re looking forward to having Jake share his experience with players and coaches across our programs. Welcome to the team, Jake!

Spend your PD day on the ice with Gabe Guertler this Friday, then cheer him on that night!

Our first Miramichi PD Day Camp is this Friday, Oct. 23 with Champions Hockey’s Head of Player Development and Miramichi Northmen player Gabe Guertler. Come work on your game with Gabe in the morning, then head to the rink that evening to watch him lace them up for the Northmen!

Atlantic Canada is heading to the 2027 Montreal Meltdown.

Champions Prospects Hockey, alongside Atlantic Hockey Group and Gusto Hockey, will be bringing male and female teams to Montreal for one of North America’s top spring hockey events.

We’re now building our 2027 teams and looking for players who want the opportunity to compete against strong programs from across Canada, the United States and beyond.

🚨 Champions and Prospects Hockey is pleased to announce that we hold the exclusive Atlantic Canada rights for the 2027 Montreal Meltdown. 🚨

We will be working alongside our partners at Atlantic Hockey Group and Gusto Hockey to bring players and families from across Atlantic Canada to one of North America’s most established spring hockey events.

The Montreal Meltdown has built a strong reputation as a destination for competitive spring hockey, bringing together teams from across Canada, the United States and beyond. Players have the opportunity to compete against strong opposition in a well-organized tournament environment.

The event is also home to the Elite Prospects Junior Showcase Weekend, attracting teams and scouts from Major Junior, Junior A, prep school and NCAA programs. For older players looking toward the next stage of their hockey development, the showcase provides an opportunity to compete in front of evaluators ahead of the QMJHL Draft.

What does grit look like in today’s game? It’s protecting the puck under pressure, working back after a turnover and staying in a battle when the first effort doesn’t work.

Our semi-private sessions begin one week from today! With small groups, plenty of repetitions and individual feedback from our coaches, players can give the details of their game the attention they deserve. Reserve your spot and join us on the ice!

Now that most players have settled onto their teams, it’s a good time to make room for individual development alongside team practices and games.

Champions Hockey’s semi-private sessions give players focused time to work on skills that need extra attention. Small-group instruction allows for individual feedback, plenty of repetitions and time to practise adjustments before taking them into a game.

Team practices cover a lot of ground, from systems to preparing for the next opponent. These sessions complement that work by giving players dedicated time to focus on their own development and build confidence in their skills.

All sessions take place on Mondays at York Arena from 6:30–7:30 a.m.

With sessions every other week for each age group, players have time between lessons to apply what they’re learning in their team practices and games.
