Well THIS is cool! We LOVE our ODR! 😁

Coke Sudbury has launched an exciting local campaign, offering a $5,000 prize to one lucky outdoor hockey rink within the City of Greater Sudbury.

This initiative is designed to celebrate our community’s passion for outdoor recreation and to highlight the incredible work done by volunteers who maintain these neighbourhood rinks each winter.

Residents across Greater Sudbury are encouraged to cast a vote for their favourite outdoor rink. Participation is open to everyone, and no purchase is required to take part in the contest.

Contest is NOW LIVE! Let’s see all that support for Cedar Park!!! Follow the link below to cast your vote! ❤️🤍❤️

Our hockey community is shining a little less bright these days as we mourn the loss of an incredible human and one impeccable coach - Roy Muncaster.

Roy Muncaster was a huge asset to our hockey community and honestly represented everything that is good about youth hockey- he was nice, he was positive, he tried to really teach the kids, he made sure they had fun, he thoroughly enjoyed being around the rink, the players and the families.

His selflessness and dedication not only to Cedar Park but SPHL in its entirety was like no other. There have been instances where a child’s family was unable to afford the registration fee and Roy himself would go above and beyond and pay so that child did not miss out.

I remember when my son first joined hockey in 2nd year Tyke, I was a single mom with a boy who had his heart set on playing hockey but sadly funds were tight. We reached out to Roy and we were told not to worry about it and he got to play that year, no questions asked and was welcomed with open arms. My son has continued to play hockey and his passion for the sport continues to grow with each season. Without Roy’s kindness and his big heart none of that would have been possible.

He has touched the lives of every one who’s met him in some way, shape or form and he will be deeply missed.

“A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.”
—John Wooden

Let’s Throw Our Wings up for Roy! 🤍♥️

As per Roy’s wishes, in lieu of flowers and gifts, donations can be made in Roy's honor to Maison McCulloch Hospice or the Northern Cancer Foundation, Sudbury.

⚠️Copied from the SPHL⚠️

“In accordance with today’s provincial Covid announcement, all indoor recreational facilities will be closed for 21 days beginning January 5th. As we have always done, the SPHL will continue to abide by all rules and guidelines to ensure we do our part to keep our community safe.
We know everyone was looking forward to seeing the players back on the ice and we share that sentiment.
As we navigate these changing rules, our intention is to extend the end date for this year’s season.
Thank you for your understanding and please keep well.”

Just a friendly reminder as per SPHL Executives

“All scheduled games this coming weekend have been converted to practices as mandated by the City. We will continue to monitor information from the City and Health Unit and hope to resume normal schedules January 7th. We thank you for your patience while we continue to navigate these unprecedented times. Please take time to enjoy the Holidays and stay safe.”

Welcome Back Red Wings, Old & New!!!

We know things have been a little chaotic in regards to new rules and regulations constantly being put forth, and while this can be annoying and frustrating to some, we ask everyone to just be kind to one another during these very odd times and have patience with each other. We are all doing the best we can and that’s all we can do right now.

We are looking forward to an amazing and hopefully full season with you all! Go Red Wings Go!

Ontario Releasing Guidance to Support Proof of Vaccination Policy | Ontario Newsroom 09/17/2021

For those of you who were wondering about players 12+ and Vaccinations. This was posted on the SPHL page to help clear up any questions/concerns.

“As stated many times the SPHL will follow all guidelines from the City of Sudbury with regards to proof of vaccination. As of yesterday the city has announced that they will be following all requirements from the Province of Ontario's Proof of Vaccine Policy. All details on this policy can be found on the link below.

What does this mean for the SPHL?

1) Participants aged 17 years and under who are entering the indoor premises solely for the purpose of actively participating in an indoor organized sport (training, practices, games and competitions) are not required to show proof of vaccination for COVID-19. In addition, proof of identification and proof of being fully vaccinated is not required for workers or volunteers, including coaches and officials.

2) SPECTATORS aged 12+ must present proof of vaccination for COVID-19 along with *identification at the point of entry to the arena.

3) SPECTATORS aged 11 & under must be accompanied by an adult who is fully vaccinated and provides *identification at the point of entry to the arena.

Note: Proof of vaccination will be managed by City employees so make sure you have your documentation ready every time you enter any arenas to ensure you enter without delay.

Remember that all other Covid 19 policy's are still in place while in the arenas, failure to adhere to these policies will put the SPHL in jeopardy of operating.
