Hello, curlers!

Finally, The Industrial League Closing Spiel is back!

The final regular-season standings will be posted on the League’s website following Monday’s rescheduled game between USB 4.0 and 84 Station. The outcome of this game is not affecting team rankings for the bonspiel; therefore, the setup of the bonspiel Round Robin is in place.

The first two draws of the bonspiel will take place this Friday evening (5:30 and 9:00 pm). See the attached Round Robin sheet to find which Pool (A, B, C, or D) your team is in. Once you have your bonspiel team number (A2, B4, D1 etc.), the schedule will show you your 3 Round Robin game match-ups, game times, and sheet assignments.

Tied games after Round Robin regulation play remain as ties. After the Round Robin, rankings will be determined based on points (Win 2 points; Tie 1 point), then head-to-head results, then highest Hot Shots scores if needed to break a tie.

All teams play Sunday in the first round of the playoffs at 9:00, or 11:30 am. The bonspiel playoff schedule is shown on the Playoff Brackets sheet.

This year, we’re featuring two special events during the spiel, the traditional KPMG Hot Shots and the Cast Construction Draw to the Tee Challenge. The First Round of the Hot Shots will go immediately following your game on Friday evening. Your Draw to the Tee competition will follow your first game on Saturday. Rules for each are attached in the email.

Don Deslongchamp will call the Calcutta Auction Friday evening, between the 5:30 and 9:00 draws, at approximately 8 pm. Be on hand to purchase your favourite team pairings for your chance at the cash payouts.

Here’s a bit of homework for Team Skips:

After consulting with your teammates, are you in favour of the League collecting an amount of money at registration time (in the $80.00 to $100.00 range per team) that would go towards the 50/50 draws for the entire regular season, instead of the League selling 50/50 tickets each week?

You would have reached an email with more information. Please reply to this email with a Yes or No, and include your team’s name with your answer.

A message from Curl Sudbury:

"January 11, 2022

COVID-19 Updates

Good afternoon everyone! We hope you are all staying warm now that this chilly weather is here to stay.

As the facility remains closed until January 26th, 2022, the Board of Directors has been hard at work determining the reopening plan for Curl Sudbury for that time. Provided nothing changes and we are able to reopen on that day, the two weeks of curling missed from January 10-26 will be made up during the weeks of February 21 to March 6, where previous week-long curling bonspiel rentals would have taken the place of regular league curling.

The Board of Directors is actively assessing and planning should the Government of Ontario announce extended closures beyond what is already established and will stay in communication with the membership as the Government of Ontario and Curl Sudbury Board of Directors plans are solidified. Our hope is always to get back on the ice as soon as we can while keeping in mind the safety of our membership, volunteers, and staff.

As a reminder to all, on the day we reopen you will need the advanced vaccine certificate with the scannable QR code. Only these certificates will be accepted for entry into the facility. The old vaccine certificates issued near the beginning of the pandemic will not be accepted.

If you have not already downloaded or printed your advanced vaccine certificate, click the link below to the Ontario Government to download it now.

We appreciate everybody's support and we hope that you all remain safe and healthy. Until we can curl again, stay safe."

Please read the message below from our executive committee! Stay safe and happy curling!

“Hello Members of The Industrial League:

As you are probably aware, the local Health Unit has issued new Covid-19 related guidelines for the Sudbury area.

Concerning curling, Curl Sudbury has confirmed two minor changes that would affect us. The changerooms will no longer be available, so please arrive at the rink dressed ready to curl. And like last year, only one sweeper per rock thrown will be permitted until further notice.

As League Scheduler Craig Partington has made you aware by email a few days ago, all games this Saturday will start at 10:30 am for teams playing this week. The following week, December 18th, league play reverts back to the normal 2 draws, 9:30 and 12:00 noon. Please check the revised schedule posted on the League’s website.

This message is being sent to Industrial League members for whom we have an email address on file. Please ensure that everyone on your team is informed about these health and safety guideline changes.

Thank you, and take care everyone,

Your Executive Committee”

09/23/2021

The curling season is fast approaching! Curl Sudbury has sent our The Industrial League a notice of their Covid-19 vaccination policy and their return to play guidelines.

Message from Curl Sudbury:

As you all know on September 22 the Ontario government has made it mandatory to provide proof of double vaccination to participate in non-essential indoor activities.
Curling does fall in this category. As a result, all members of your league must provide proof of vaccination to Curl Sudbury to participate. Your league will be responsible in assigning a minimum of one person to collect proof of vaccination. Curl Sudbury will also provide a minimum of one person to assist in this.

We have also made some changes to our return to play guidelines. They will be going out this weekend, but here are a few of those changes.

Masks will only be mandatory when entering, moving around the lounges, washrooms, leaving the club, and on ice for those who will be in the house.
Masks are strongly recommended for all other players buy not mandatory,
2 sweepers and sweeping behind the tee line will be permitted.
Use of score boards will be permitted (1 person/sheet to be assigned to mark, remove and disinfect the numbers)
Main entrance may be used to exit the building

We'll keep you posted as developments unfold leading up to the start of our curling season.

Take care!

01/08/2021

As of Thursday Jan. 6th, the province of Ontario announced a two-week extension of the COVID-19 lockdown in Northern Ontario, to last until January 23rd. The league's executive committee will look at a new set of return-to-play options and inform the membership at the appropriate time. Take care and stay safe!

12/31/2020

Curl Sudbury has confirmed that if the lockdown ends in Northern Ontario after 2 weeks, the ice will be ready for us on Saturday, Jan. 9th, 2021. Therefore, week 1 games of our Second Half season would be played on January 9th.

Congratulations to Rustlers for capturing the top spot at the end of the First Half with 56 points.

As in past years, the teams with the highest rankings at the end of the First Half are grouped in Pool A, the remaining teams are grouped in Pool B. However, this year team numbers for the Second Half have been manually assigned in order to ensure that all teams have an equal number of choices of last stone in the first end as the season unfolds. To put it another way, your Second Half team number does not reflect in any way your team’s ranking at the end of the First Half.

Check the pool lists on the attached schedule sheet to find your new team number. Pool A contains the teams that posted First Half total points between 39 and 56 points. Pool B teams scored between 21 and 35.5 points. The attached First Half Score Sheet has a complete breakdown.

Please consult our League’s website for news and information as the season progresses.

We are in the yellow zone! Restrictions have been increased. As well, face shields are no longer adequate for use as they do not protect others. Only face masks that tightly cover the nose, mouth, and chin will be acceptable for use at Curl Sudbury. Remember to bring a well fitting mask!
