Nailing up some muddy, virgin hooves with making shoes as fast as I can put them on was a fun first thunderstorm day of the year

Got the chance to compete with a few good friends on our draft team as well as the regular individual classes last weekend at the Michigan State contest. Another exciting contest season has started and the year is already mapped out.
Thanks for the sweet picture!

I have been fairly quiet on the page this year but that's not to say I haven't been busy! Many know I have been working hard towards bettering myself and our farrier industry.
I am now a certified journeyman farrier with the American Farrier Association, the top level in the AFA certification system and will open many exciting doors.
At the Ontario Farrier Association convention I was awarded the Jim Smith Award for outstanding commitment to education and furthering the farrier industry.
I love our industry and want others to be able to participate and better themselves at both local and national events through the sense community.
Who knows what the future will hold!

Handmades make me happy
Just a reminder, if someone has told you your horse is overweight, if they have ever discussed or even suggested (without diagnosis) insulin resistance (IR), Cushing's, or said the word metabolic:
DO NOT PUT YOUR HORSE ON GRASS
Horses should not be expected to be sore footed because it's spring. If they are sore footed "because it's spring" that is in fact laminitis.
If you happen to have a horse in this situation, ice water soaks to the knees and hocks will reduce the damage done to the internal structures.

It's not about what you take away, it's about what you leave. In both farriery and life.
I'm having phone problems. If you need to reach me, please send a FB message and be patient as I can only check when I stop somewhere with wifi.
Thank you!

Lately I have been telling the story of my pony Bubble Gum to people at barns. Usually it comes up when I discuss ponies on grass. My dear pony had a very uneducated owner (me!) who thought the belly high grass was what ponies should be on and no one informed me that was wrong.
No one is born knowing and I don't fault a single owner for that, because I too did it. Looking back, I feel terrible for what I did but because of her I will always be there for hoofcare.
Feel free to ask as many questions as you would like, I just want to help horses and ponies feel comfortable in their hooves. I will never shame you for what you didn't know.
Here is one for all the farriers out there!! This one made me giggle and cringe all at the same time!!
