Holy smokes! Where to begin? After Eramosa River Trail parkrun set a record for highest attendance ever last week, we thought it would be quieter on a cooler overcast early fall day.

And it was, if 314 participants (our *second* highest number yet) counts ๐Ÿ˜„.

Of those, 70(!) set personal course records โšก and 32 completed their first parkrun ever ๐ŸŽˆ. Younger folks continued to tear up the course and finish fast, with 1st and 2nd places going to 20-24 year-olds Manuel F and Jared L, and 3rd and 4th to 15-17 year-olds Oakley C and Andy S ๐Ÿš€. At the same time, the amazing Greta K (in the 85-89 age group) topped the list of age-weighted results ๐ŸŽ‰.

We had eight first-time visitors, including Rosie N and Sunita G from the UK, and Keorapetse M from Johannesburg. Welcome!

Congratulations to milestone participants Emilia H for completing parkrun #10; Mark G, Selena L, Mylene W, Scott N, Mark M, Tammy M, Lisa T for #25; Mathew E and Tim U for #50 ๐Ÿ‘. One other guy, whose fingers are typing this, finished #100 ๐Ÿ˜.

Donโ€™t forget that your local parkrun happens each week only because of the work of volunteers. This week our parkrun resulted from the work of 17 people setting up, marshaling ๐Ÿšฉ, timing โฒ, handing out finisher tokens, and doing the other jobs ๐Ÿ’ช. Volunteering is a fun way to experience and support parkrun. Experienced volunteers will be happy to give you training and support. Sign up at your next parkrun or email us at [email protected].

We hope to see you out to walk, jog or run for next Saturday at 9 AM at York Road Park. Feel free to bring a child stroller or dog on a short handheld leash. All are welcome! (If you drive, bylaw enforcement officers ๐Ÿ‘ฎ are less welcoming of people parking illegally or at local businesses, so be sure you are in a public space ๐Ÿ˜‰.) If you are joining parkrun for the first time, you can register once (for free) at parkrun.ca/register. Youโ€™ll get a barcode to bring every time so you can get credit in the parkrun results and kudos for your achievements!

๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ PARKING at ERT parkrun?

Here are your options, especially as our event grows (over 330 last week):

1๏ธโƒฃ The large gravel parking lot just off Gordon Street at the west end of the Covered Bridge.
2๏ธโƒฃ The south side of York Street between Wyndham and the Ukrainian Church (adjacent to the last leg of our parkrun course).
3๏ธโƒฃ The parking lot behind the ball diamond near our second turnaround.
4๏ธโƒฃ Continue past the ball diamond to a hidden gravel parking lot โ€” itโ€™s a short jog (400 metres) back down our trail to the start line.

Happy trails! ๐ŸŒณ

Thanks to all who joined Eramosa River Trailโ€™s (ERTโ€™s) 258th parkrun โ€“ we hit a new attendance record of 331 participants ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿคฉ!! The fabulous weather brought out a lot of familiar and new faces!

Among our 331 participants who ran/jogged/walked the course we welcomed 27 first timers today. Included in our first timers were visitors from Downsview parkrun and River Oaks parkrun. Great to have you all join us today! We also had some one-time slow moving โ€œfirst timersโ€: around our start time this morning a nest of snapping turtles at the ball diamond adjacent to our start/finish line were hatching โ€“ in total 32 tiny wriggling turtles were gently transported to a safter place nearer to the river bank by some fabulous Ontario Parks volunteers. Sadly, none had registered to get bar codes or completed the course, so they didnโ€™t contribute to our record turnout ๐Ÿข๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅฐ

Congratulations to the 50!!!! parkrunners who earned a PB today, along with all our other PB parkrunners today๐Ÿคฉ. Great job everybody!

This weekโ€™s milestones: James T, Scarlett C, Ada E, and Vanessa L completed 10 parkruns ๐ŸŽ‰; Judah P, Paulo M, and Doug M completed their 25thparkuns๐ŸŽ‰; Andy R and Kelly R completed 100 parkruns๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐ŸŽ‰!!!! ๐Ÿ‘! Way to go everybody; so happy to have your ongoing participation๐Ÿคฉ!!
\
Our parkrun is only possible with the support from our fantastic team of volunteers! SO...STROLLER RUNNING....
Ever been passed by a person pushing a stroller and wonder how they do it? Then cheer them on? I do this frequently so today I asked many of them; โ€œtell me about stroller runningโ€.

Stroller running is harder than running without one, but easier than it looks. It is great when there are no hills (hello Eramosa River Trail Parkrun), and is a great way to introduce your kids to running and the great outdoors. In fact, getting the kids out was the # 1 motivator for some stroller dads. Hopefully there are some future runners in those strollers!

For others, it is the only way they get to run and a time management issue. Often getting out the door is the biggest obstacle.

It requires a slower pace, more coordination and good spatial awareness, especially at the start where there are a lot of people. Every person I talked to spoke of not wanting to run over anyoneโ€™s heels!

It is more technical running and for some requires more work with the abs and shoulders.

Key messages: a good running stroller is a must as are high value rewards to keep the kids from getting bored.

I appreciate the time people took to talk with me and look forward to seeing strollers on the trail next week!

This week we had 293 participants with a whopping 40 PBโ€™s. We welcomed 23 first timers and a visitor from Scotland.

Kathryn E and Helena K both completed their 25th parkrun! Alyssa S finished her 50th! Way to go!

Our event only happens because of our amazing volunteers. Today we had 18 volunteers and welcomed Helena K as a first time volunteer. We would love to welcome more of you to our volunteer group. It is a fun way to give back to parkrun and training is provided. Consider volunteering once every 10 or 15 runs. You too could wear a stylish vest!

We hope to see you next Saturday at 9 AM at York Road Park. Feel free to bring a child stroller or a dog on a short handheld leash - all are welcome! If youโ€™re joining parkrun for the first time, you can register once (for free!) at parkrun.ca/register. Another beautiful Saturday morning for ERT is in the books, filled with smiles and great spirits! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’› We even had a young fairy spreading some dust over the course while her dad worked hard pushing the stroller ๐Ÿ˜‰

A total of 253 participants finished the 5K course, including 26 first-timers ๐Ÿ’› We hope to see you again soon. We also welcomed visitors from South Africa, Kitchener, and New Brunswick. A pleasure having you join us! ๐Ÿคฉ

The pleasant morning made for a whopping 34 personal bests ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ช Great job, speedy folks - Iโ€™m sure the fairy dust gave you a little extra power! ๐Ÿ˜‚ In the milestones department, congrats to Lisa N and Tenille K for reaching 25 parkruns! ๐Ÿ‘

Our event exists because of the work of amazing volunteers. This week, 17 folks made it happen, including first-time volunteer Jill R! ๐Ÿ’› Volunteering is a fun way to experience and support parkrun. This was a big week for parkrun in Canada -- the 10th anniversary of the first parkruns in the country in 2016! ๐ŸŽ†๐ŸŽŠ. Since today fell on the 22nd of the month, it also was a tutu (22) run day, where participants are invited to show up in their most colourful tutus ๐Ÿ˜€.

People must have been inspired! The 251 participants in todayโ€™s event included 17 first time ever parkrunners and 16 second timers ๐ŸŽ‰. Thirty-six set personal course PBs!

It was a day where youthful speed was on show. Peter O, in the 11-14 age group, set the fastest time on his 25th milestone parkrun, with the next three finishers all in the 15-17 age group.

We welcomed visitors from New Zealand, the UK, and Coquitlam. Happy you chose our event!

Congratulations to Laurie B for completing parkrun #200, Karl B for #100, Tim C and Jamie H for their #50, and Peter O and Rachel L for their #25 ๐Ÿ‘.
