Sophie Widmeyer is back for her fourth season as an assistant coach with the 🐝

Widmeyer brings a wealth of experience to the bench. She was an Atlantic University Sport second team all-star and league champion in 2023 with the Saint Mary’s University Huskies, competed at the NCAA level with Providence College, and played professionally in Ireland before a knee injury brought that chapter to an end.

She also helped guide the squad to an MWBA bronze medal at the 2023 Legacy Cup Championship at TD Station in Saint John.

Sara, who is from Ireland but grew up in Germany, is here in Nova Scotia doing an internship with as part of her Sports Science Degree. 👩🏻‍🎓

Sara, a 5’8 guard who loves to shoot the ball and defend, plays Division 1 professionally in Ireland 🇮🇪 with the and was a member of the Ireland U20 National Team where they made it to the National Final in 2023 🥈!

We are excited to welcome Sara to the franchise for the 2026 season and we can’t wait to get started in April 🐝‼️

💥🏀 We are thrilled to welcome AKI KOBAYASHI to the Halifax Hornets Franchise! ✨

Aki is a highly skilled point guard, 3 time CHAMP 🏆 2024/2025 AUS Second Team All Star and 2024/2025 .womensbasketball Coach’s Award Recipient, will make an immediate impact on both ends of the floor while bringing a strong veteran presence to the franchise! 🐝

⭐️First we want to say .. GOOD LUCK to the 4 .mwba teams who are headed to the Legacy cup this weekend🏆! We plan to see you there next year 😉❗️

🐝That’s a wrap on season 4 for us! We first want to thank our SPONSORS, FANS and SUPPORTERS!

Although we didn’t make it to the Legacy Cup this year, we are proud of the building blocks we put in to place this season 🧱. We are also grateful for the opportunities we were able to provide for women in sport this season and we are already looking forward to season 5! 🏀

We have a lot more thank you’s to share in the coming days so don’t worry, you’re not getting rid of us just yet! 😁

💥We have some plans in the works to follow along with our Hornet players who will be returning to their Univiersity/College teams in the Fall as well as a few other ways to stay connected in the off season - stay tuned ! 💡

Alright Hornet fans, after a tough loss last night we are ready to get back on the court❗️

Tonight at 7:00 pm we face the .thunder in a ‘do or die’ situation! Winner heads to Fredericton, NB next weekend for the final 4 Legacy Cup weekend 🏆.
