Lest we forget. Is what they say. Something I really believe in. But I find that the saying hits differently for everybody.
"Go fight the bad guy, over there 👉, so we don't have to fight them right here 👇" would be another context
I find the general population of civilians, that have never served, have vastly lost touch with what theyre supposed to be remembering. But at least they go through the motions because the just think it's the right thing to do. And that is something.
The most common thought, and the pictures we see, are of a somber day from WW2, we lost a lot of Canadians, and thousands of other allies in that time. And that absolutely is something to never forget. No doubt there.
It feels distant, cause their doing a good job.
But while the WW2 images and stories deserve their place in our thoughts. It's becoming hard to relate that to many of the current genertion. Almost, Too far, and too hard, to believe. And there so much more left on the table.
So let me say it from my eyes, something that may be better understood....
As someone who's served, deployed, injured and retired.
Wearing the poppy, and the saying "lest we forget" is all encompassing. It's to remember all service members, living or dead, active or retired, that chose to sacrifice nights at home with their kids. Missed birthdays, Christmases. Taking the burdens like PTSD, and physical injuries.... To protect the freedoms we have, where we live.
"Go fight the bad guy, over there 👉, so we don't have to fight them right here 👇" would be another context.
It's all the wars.
Ww1
Ww1
Korea
Vietnam
Iraq
Afghanistan
Lativa
Bosnia
And so much more.
It's very real. And very close. Happening everyday. All around us. Not just some somber though from +80yrs ago. Courageous pple that sacrifice them selves and their families, to protect. Just walking around us as if their normal pple. Mostly going un noticed.
Many can't wrap their heads around and the sacrifices. And that's ok.
Wearing the poppy means taking time to remember all the courage that's happening now, and back then.
It's not distant.
It feels distant cause their doing a good job.
