Young parents deserve support without judgment. 💛

Becoming a parent at a young age doesn't tell us everything about someone's story, circumstances, or capacity to parent.

What can make a difference is having people who listen without assumptions, provide accurate information, respect their choices, and offer practical support when it's needed.

Instead of asking, "Are you too young?" we can ask, "How can I support you?"

Every parent deserves to feel respected, heard, and empowered as they grow into their new role.

🍼 As World Breastfeeding Week comes to a close, a reminder that breastfeeding is often something both parent and baby learn together. 💛

Finding a comfortable position, getting a deep latch, understanding feeding cues, and figuring out what works for you can all take time. There’s no single “perfect” position or feeding journey.

Human milk is pretty incredible — changing throughout lactation to continue supporting babies as they grow. But celebrating breastfeeding should never mean creating pressure around feeding.

Breastfeeding shouldn’t consistently hurt, and you don’t have to “push through” difficulties alone. Skilled feeding support can make a huge difference.

Whether you exclusively breastfeed, pump, combination feed, use formula, or your journey looks completely different than you planned, you deserve good information, compassionate care, and support without judgment. 💛

They say it takes a village—and postpartum is often when we understand just how true that is.

A village isn't only made up of professionals. It's the friend who drops off dinner. The family member who folds your laundry without being asked. The neighbour who holds your baby so you can shower. The person who texts, "How are you doing?" and truly waits for the answer.

These moments of care remind us that we were never meant to do this alone.

💛 Tag someone who was part of your postpartum village and let them know how much their support meant to you.

Water can bring so much joy during the summer—but it also requires our full attention.

For babies and toddlers, drowning can happen quickly and quietly. That's why close, active supervision is one of the most important ways to help keep little ones safe.

This World Drowning Prevention Day, remember these simple safety reminders:

💧 Stay within arm's reach around water.
💧 Never rely on floaties or inflatable toys alone.
💧 Empty water tables, buckets, and small containers after use.
💧 Never leave babies or toddlers unattended during bath time.
💧 Around pools and beaches, supervision should always come first.

Let's work together to make this a fun and safe summer for every family. ☀️💙

Self care in late pregnancy isn't about spa days or checking more things off your to do list.

Sometimes it's choosing rest over productivity. Drinking another glass of water. Saying no without guilt. Asking someone else to help. Preparing for postpartum before the baby arrives.

These small acts of care aren't selfish. They're part of supporting your body through an incredible season of change.

This International Self Care Day, remember that caring for yourself doesn't have to be elaborate. It just has to meet you where you are.

💛 Give yourself permission to slow down.

One of the biggest surprises about labour is that early labour often takes time.

Rather than rushing to the hospital, this stage is usually best spent focusing on comfort, nourishment, hydration, and rest whenever possible.

Simple things like eating a light meal, drinking water, taking a warm shower, dimming the lights, and moving gently can help you feel more relaxed as your body finds its rhythm.

Remember, every labour is unique. Follow the guidance of your healthcare provider about when to call or head to your birth location, and don't hesitate to reach out to your doula for reassurance and support along the way.

Preparing ahead of time can help you feel more confident when the big day arrives. 💛

Birth justice is about more than birth itself. It is about human rights.

Every person deserves informed consent, respectful communication, trauma-informed care, and the opportunity to make decisions about their own body without fear, discrimination, or coercion.

Birth justice also means recognizing that not everyone experiences maternity care equally. Barriers related to race, culture, disability, gender identity, geography, language, and socioeconomic status continue to affect health outcomes and experiences.

As birth workers, healthcare professionals, and communities, we all have a role in creating safer, more equitable birth spaces where every family is listened to, respected, and supported.

Because dignity, autonomy, and compassionate care should never be optional.

One of the questions we hear most often is, "What does a doula actually do during labour?"

The answer is simple: we provide continuous support.

From hands on comfort measures and emotional reassurance to helping partners feel confident, sharing evidence based information, and encouraging informed communication with your care team, a doula is there to support your experience.

And our care doesn't necessarily end when your baby arrives. A postpartum check in helps ensure you feel supported as you begin your next chapter.

If you're expecting a fall baby, now is a wonderful time to explore your birth support options. We'd love to chat about how doula care can support your growing family.
