💜⚔️ This is a big part of WHY I created Halifax Sword Fitness.
Through my work at Access Acupuncture, I meet so many women moving through perimenopause, menopause and other stages of life where their bodies simply don’t feel the way they used to.
They want to move. They know movement is important. But sometimes the idea of going to the gym and “working out” just doesn’t inspire them.
I wanted to create something different.
Something that challenges our strength, balance, mobility, coordination and mind while also giving us something new to learn.
Something where exercise doesn’t have to feel like a chore.
And, quite frankly… something that makes us feel pretty badass too. 😆⚔️
Halifax Sword Fitness isn’t about fighting, and it isn’t about chasing a number on the scale.
It’s about continuing to move, learn and feel capable in our bodies as they change.
That philosophy is at the heart of what I’m building here. 💜
Have a read of the post below if you’re curious about the connection between women’s health, menopause and movement.
⚔️ Strength begins with movement.
Could It Be Perimenopause? The Symptoms Women Are Often Not Warned About!
For many women, perimenopause does not begin with a missed period. It may start with disrupted sleep, unexplained fatigue, headaches, joint stiffness, anxiety, brain fog or weight that suddenly feels more difficult to manage.
These changes are not imaginary, and they are not simply signs that you need to “try harder.”
During the menopause transition, fluctuating hormones can affect temperature regulation, sleep, mood and body composition. Research suggests that fat accumulation can accelerate during this transition while lean muscle mass begins to decline. Stress, poor sleep, aging and reduced physical activity can make these changes even more noticeable.
Acupuncture cannot stop menopause, and we should not claim that it directly “balances” estrogen or progesterone. However, it may help women manage several symptoms occurring at the same time.
At Access Acupuncture, we do not treat menopause as one identical condition. One woman may struggle primarily with hot flashes and insomnia. Another may experience headaches, anxiety, digestive changes and joint discomfort. Treatment is personalized according to the complete pattern of symptoms, the woman’s health history and how these changes are affecting her daily life.
Research shows that acupuncture support women experiencing hot flashes, sleep disruption, and pain while improving menopause related quality of life. It can also be used alongside medical menopause care, including hormone therapy when appropriate.
But acupuncture is only one part of a complete menopause support plan. Preserving strength, mobility and confidence through regular movement is also essential.
This is one of the reasons Julie Saint-Pierre created Halifax Sword Fitness. In the clinic, she was meeting women who felt increasingly stiff, uncomfortable in their joints and discouraged by changes in their weight. Many wanted to move more but did not feel inspired by conventional exercise. The objective of Sword Fitness is not fighting or focusing solely on weight loss. It is helping women reconnect with their bodies and feel capable, powerful and motivated to move again.
Menopause care should never be reduced to one solution. Medical care, acupuncture, nutrition, sleep support and enjoyable movement can work together to help women feel stronger and better supported through this transition.
Your body is changing, but it has not stopped being strong, adaptable and worthy of care.
