Help us in cheering on our friend Alysa for her big race coming up!
"Hi! My name is Alysa and in four days at the time of writing this, I will be on the start line of Unbound XL. For those unfamiliar, it is an unrelenting 350 mile/563km-ish gravel race in the flint hills of Kansas. I was confirmed entrance into the race in December and since then, it has been a significant force in my routine and thoughts. I have long enjoyed the challenge of improvement and performance in cycling but there have been times where my purpose was lost in that pressure, and I became disconnected from the simple pleasure of riding a bike. The people at Long Alley helped re-inspire the many reasons I first fell in love with the sport. They demonstrated and encouraged me to experiment with the different forms of cycling and ways to enjoy being on a bike, beyond the pavement and lycra. I don’t know if I would have found myself in the world of endurance racing otherwise. I still enjoy pushing myself and seeing what I am capable of overcoming, but I am all the more eager to savour every aspect of the adventure, witness the strength of all the women committed, and to have all of these people in my corner to think of throughout. I was asked to write about the race, and this reads as more of a slobbery advertisement of the shop… but as the nerves build, this is where I hope to keep my mind and the most genuine way I can process all the things I feel going into the event. Perhaps you can look forward to a more logistic post-ride conversation… Thanks for your support!"
