🎉🎉 coaching announcement 🎉🎉

Nova Surge is beyond thrilled to introduce your u12 head co-coaches for the spring 2026 season!

Alyson Lamb & Travis Lobban

Alyson ~ Alyson truly embraces the concept of long term athlete development, she started playing at the age of 5 in Berwick and continues to play even today in the 18+ recreational league NS Central league. She learned the sport from some of Nova Scotia top coaches, including Beth Vallis as part of the 1999 Canada Winter Games team. She started as a junior coach many years ago and started coaching again when her daughter began to play. She has coached with the Halifax Hurricanes for the past 5 years and Nova Surge for 2 years, sharing her passion for ringette and the desire to build strong, leaderful athletes who love to play sport for life.

Travis ~ I was introduced to ringette in 2018, when oldest daughter was invited to a “bring a friend” event, she fell in love with the game and we now have two daughters playing ringette.
I started as an on ice helper and over the years became more and more involved, helping with U9 program all the way through to an assistant with U16T1 and HC of U12 with Halifax currently. I enjoy learning the game more and more each season and returning that knowledge to the younger kids to help grow and support their development.

I grew up playing soccer, football and lacrosse. You could find me any lunch hour in the school gymnasium playing any other sport, developing a love of competition but always having fun. Sport has given me the opportunity to travel the country and enjoy meeting new people and countless experiences. After my playing days I returned to coach minor football, lacrosse and now ringette.
This is my 3rd season returning with surge ringette

We can’t wait to see all the waves these two will make this season!! 🌊

⭐️Exciting News for Nova Surge Ringette!⭐️

We are thrilled to announce Kelsey Lewis as the new Head Coach for our U10 Nova Surge team!

After relocating from Calgary this summer with her family, Kelsey is a true ringette "lifer" who's been in love with the sport since she was a young girl. She competed at various levels throughout her playing career, spending most of her years on Tier 1 teams, and is incredibly proud of the journey ringette has taken her on.

For the past five seasons, Kelsey coached both of her daughters with the Bowview Ringette Association in Calgary. She also created and ran a highly successful spring league program over the last three years—which became a true highlight of her coaching career—and earlier spent more than a decade as an instructor with the National Ringette School, sharing her passion with athletes across Canada.

Ringette has shaped Kelsey both as a coach and as a person, and she’s beyond excited to bring that passion, experience, and energy to our amazing Nova Surge team. She can’t wait to help our young athletes grow, develop their skills, build confidence, and discover the same deep love for the game that has meant so much to her.

Please join us in giving Kelsey a huge welcome to Nova Surge!

Hi all,

This is Josh.

There have been a lot of questions surrounding whether or not Surge will run a U14 team this spring. I can't answer that question, but I'm writing this post to let everyone know I do not intend to be directly involved in one - and not for any other reason than I just want to do something a little bit different this spring.

When Jess and I first started Surge, the primary drive on my part was to aid in the development of a group of athletes desperate to close the skill gap between themselves and their peers from other Associations. I was very fortunate to have Jess, who came to our aid with the Hurricanes the previous season, to partner with me on this endeavor. And for sure Jess, myself, and many others involved worked hard over the past couple of years to provide a very positive and rewarding experience for those athletes and families who joined us. I'm very proud of what we were able to accomplish and I hope Surge continues to provide that opportunity.

I do expect to continue to be part of U12 Surge as long as my daughter Maddie has interest, and as long as I'm part of U12 and there are other teams that continue under the Surge banner, I will continue to support them, but the intention would be very much from an arm's length.

Change is hard, but it is sometimes required in order to foster, encourage and cultivate growth. For U14, if I am to organize anything, I'm looking for change, I think it's time - at least for myself and my family. Where there is not already something else available, I'm endeavoring to build something, and it will be separate from Surge.

I think that's all I'll say about that. As always, if anyone has any questions or concerns feel free to reach out - always open for a chat.

Thank you,

Josh
