The SMU Karate Club is pleased to offer a new Competition Kata class starting this September 2024. This class is geared toward the karateka/athlete who wishes to advance their kata performance for either competition, or gradings. Those who wish to participate in this class should already know at least one full kata from their style of karate that they are comfortable working on to improve. The basic fundamentals of kata will be worked on in this class, including speed, power, stances, transitions, balance, timing and techniques. This class is geared towards improving your kata performance.
This class is open to members of the SMU karate club and any member of Karate Nova Scotia in good standing. This is a drop-in class with the option to register for the term.

Happy New Year everyone!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break.
As of this posting things are still a go for intermediate/advanced karate classes starting on January 11, and the new beginner class starting January 18th.
If this changes I'll update this post.
Hi All,
Just a quick update after the provincial COVID briefing today.
The province put in place some new restrictions for people to follow over the holidays and effecting sports programs until January 12th. These current restrictions will not effect the karate club starting it's advanced class on January 11th since there will be lots of room in the dojo for people to social distance properly.
If this changes I'll definitely let you all know!
Cheers,
Sensei Shannon

Interesting take on an old saying.
Fall down 7 times, get up 8 times is wrong! | Iain Abernethy “Fall down 7 times, get up 8 times” is sure to be a saying all martial artists have heard. I’ve seen it on a number of dojo walls and in a lot of martial literature … but it bugs me! It’s wrong!
