Want to turn your garden into a five-star resort for local pollinators? 🌸🐝
You don't need a massive acreage to make a huge difference for our favourite hard-working insects. Here are three quick, easy ways to make your yard the talk of the hive this season:
Plant in clusters: Bees love efficiency. Planting a dense patch of the same flower (like lavender, borage, or echinacea) makes it much easier for them to forage than scattering single plants around.
Set up a bee pub: Bees get incredibly thirsty! Put out a shallow dish filled with water and add a layer of marbles or pebbles. This gives them a perfectly safe place to land and drink without the danger of drowning.
Embrace the dandelions: Let your lawn go a little wild, especially early in the season. Those bright yellow "weeds" are actually a vital, lifesaving early food source when little else is blooming.

Let the Dandelions Lead the Way: No Mow May 🌼
Thinking about holding off on the first mow of the season? No Mow May is more than just a break from yard work—it’s a vital lifeline for our early-season pollinators.
As the weather warms up, bees and other beneficial insects emerge hungry. Common "weeds" like dandelions and clover are often their very first sources of nectar and pollen. By leaving the lawn mower in the shed for a few extra weeks, you’re providing a backyard buffet that helps colonies build the strength they need for the summer ahead.
Why join in?
Boost Biodiversity: A little extra height in the grass creates a mini-ecosystem for local wildlife.
Support Hive Health: More forage means stronger, more resilient bee populations.
Save Time: Take those extra hours to enjoy the garden instead of grooming it!
If you aren’t ready to go full "wilderness," even leaving a small patch of wildflowers in a corner makes a massive difference.
Are you participating this year, or do you have a favourite pollinator-friendly flower popping up in your garden?

If you’ve only ever tried the honey from a grocery store shelf, you're missing out on a world of incredible natural flavours!
The "flavour" of honey is determined by the specific flowers the bees visit. Different nectar sources create entirely different profiles, ranging from light and fruity to deep and spicy.
Here are some of the most delicious floral sources to look for:
Clover: The classic gold standard—sweet, mild, and floral.
Blueberry: A unique, tangy honey with a subtle hint of green fruit.
Lavender: Incredibly aromatic with a delicate, herbal finish.
Wildflower: A "multifloral" surprise that captures the essence of a specific time and place.
Buckwheat: Dark, robust, and malty—perfect for those who like a stronger taste!
Support your local beekeepers and try a jar of monofloral honey today. You might be surprised to find that no two harvests are ever exactly the same. 🐝🌸
Do you have a favourite that you've tried? Let us know! 🐝🍯🐝🍯

Ready for Spring yet? Here's a helpful reminder of things you need to do for your bees! 🐝
There’s nothing quite like that first thorough Spring Inspection. After a long Atlantic winter, getting a look at the health of the colony is the best way to kick off the season.
Today’s mission:
Checking the Brood: Looking for a solid, healthy pattern to ensure the Queen is back in top form.
Food Stores: Making sure they have enough fuel to keep up with the spring build-up before the first major nectar flow.
Space Management: Ensuring they have room to grow so they don't start eyeing the nearest tall tree for a swarm!
It’s a great feeling to see the hive humming and productive again. Here's to a successful and sting-free season!
