🥋 ONE WEEK TO GO!

We are only one week away from our training weekend with Claudia Laos-Loo!

Claudia will be at Sacred Heart School in Halifax on September 12th and 13th for four training sessions.

And if you have been training for years, there will be lots for you to learn.

Claudia will be teaching ways to move better, become faster, create more power and better understand how we use our bodies in karate.

She will use strength exercises, mobility, plyometrics and kihon throughout the weekend.

Claudia has competed for Canada in both kata and kumite and is now one of Canada's top kata athletes. She also has a degree in Kinesiology and is working toward her NCCP Competition Development coaching certification.

🥈🇨🇦 PAN AMERICAN SILVER FOR KADEN SHEN! 🇨🇦🥈

What an incredible performance!

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to Kaden Shen, who captured the SILVER MEDAL 🥈 in Junior Male Kumite -76 kg at the Junior Pan American Karate Championships in Costa Rica! 🇨🇷🥋

We could not be prouder of the way Kaden represented Canada, Karate Nova Scotia, and Murphy’s Karate Academy on the international stage.

Kaden fought extremely well throughout the tournament, showing tremendous skill, composure, determination, and heart against some of the best young athletes in the Americas. A Pan American silver medal is an outstanding accomplishment and a reflection of all the work he has put into his training.

And the journey isn't finished yet...

🌎🇨🇦 With this result, Kaden has earned a spot to represent Canada at the Junior World Championships this October!

Another opportunity to put on the maple leaf and compete against the very best in the world🥋

Congratulations, Kaden! We are incredibly proud of you and can't wait to see what comes next.

ONLY 2 WEEKS TO GO! 🥋🇨🇦

We’re getting closer to welcoming Claudia Laos-Loo to Halifax on September 12 & 13, so we thought we’d share a little more about the person who will be leading the weekend.

There’s a lot more to Claudia than her accomplishments as an international kata athlete.
She’s currently working toward her NCCP Competition Development coaching certification and plans to pursue a Bachelor of Education with the goal of becoming a high school Physical Education teacher.

She also stays very involved in the Canadian sport community as a Karate Canada Athlete Co-Director and a 2026 Game Plan Canada Athlete Ambassador for CSI Pacific — all while working as a barista and competing as a Starbucks-sponsored athlete.

For us, that's a pretty interesting combination.

Our athletes aren't just getting the opportunity to train with an accomplished international competitor.

They're learning from someone who is actively studying coaching, movement and athlete development — and who wants to make teaching and sport part of her future.

Come train. Ask questions. Learn something new. And take some of it back to your own karate. 👊

🇨🇦🥋 GOOD LUCK, KADEN! 🥋🇨🇦

We are proud to wish Kaden Shen the very best as he represents Canada at the 2026 Junior Pan American Karate Championships in Costa Rica! 🇨🇦

Kaden will take to the tatami on Saturday, August 29, competing in Junior Male Kumite -76 kg against some of the top young karate athletes from across the Americas.

It is an incredible accomplishment to earn the opportunity to wear the maple leaf on the international stage, and we are extremely proud to see Kaden representing Karate Canada, Karate Nova Scotia, and Murphy’s Karate Academy.

Kaden is pictured with Mitchel German, High Performance Coach for Karate Nova Scotia and Karate Canada Coach, who is in Costa Rica to support and coach him throughout the championship.

A tremendous amount of training, dedication, and hard work has gone into earning this opportunity. Now it's time to trust the work, enjoy the experience, and leave it all on the tatami.

The entire MKA family is behind you, Kaden!

Good luck on Saturday! 🇨🇦🔥👊

GET TO KNOW CLAUDIA 🥋🇨🇦

Before Claudia Laos-Loo was competing internationally for Canada, it started the same way it does for so many young karate athletes — in a local dojo.

Claudia began karate at just 7 years old in Ladner, BC, eventually competing in both kata and kumite and representing Canada as a junior national team athlete.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University, bringing an understanding of how the body moves and produces force into the way she approaches karate and training.

And on September 12 & 13, she's coming to Halifax to share that knowledge and experience with us!

TWO DAYS. ONE PURPOSE. BETTER KATA.

September 12–13, Claudia Laos-Loo comes to Halifax for a weekend of high-level kata training.

This isn't just about learning another kata.

It's about the details that change how you perform one.

Timing.
Speed.
Power.
Transitions.
Technical precision.

And understanding what separates a good performance from an international-level one.

Claudia brings firsthand experience from some of the biggest stages in karate, representing Canada internationally and earning medals at the Pan American Games, PKF Championships and North American Cup.
