Credit to Hello everyone,
Karate Nova Scotia is excited to share that we will be hosting Hana Furumoto-Deshaies for special clinics on March 28th–29th. Hana is one of Canada’s top karate athletes and competes around the world. She brings great experience and energy, and we are proud to have her in Nova Scotia.
FREE Guardian Girls Program – March 28th (morning)
On the morning of March 28th, Hana will lead the Guardian Girls Program. This program helps women and girls learn skills to stay safe and confident. It was created by the World Karate Federation, the Koyamada International Foundation, and the United Nations Population Fund.
This session is free and is for women and girls who are not currently doing karate. It is our way to give back to the community and share the benefits of karate.
Anyone who registers by March 3rd will receive a free Guardian Girls T-shirt.
Kumite Clinics and Mental Performance Session
Hana will also run:
- Kumite training on March 28th (afternoon) and March 29th (morning)
- A mental performance session on March 29th (afternoon). Hana is also a sports psychologist and will share tips to help athletes stay focused and confident.
All sessions will take place at Sacred Heart School in Halifax.
Full event details can be found in the link in our bio.
Please consider signing up and sharing this event with others who may be interested. Don’t miss this chance to train and learn from one of Canada’s best karate athletes!

It is with a heavy heart that I share this photo, taken from this past weekend's KNS Grand Prix tournament. On May 9, 2024—my birthday—I received my first email from Orion, who was new to the area and hoping to check out our club.
In a short time, he became a valued member and coach. Orion brought positivity, kindness, and a strong work ethic, and he helped raise the level of every Kata athlete he worked with.
While we are sad to see him leave the province, we are grateful for the impact he had on our club and our athletes. We wish him all the best in what comes next and look forward to crossing paths again at future events—and hopefully welcoming him back to Nova Scotia someday.
