Hope you all are in the mood for some fun friendly competition because we will be hosting our last tournament of the year! On Sunday March 22nd we will have the Emily Byron Memorial Calcutta Tournament. The event will have a small $5 registration fee that will all be donated to a different NS mental health organization every year. This year we will be making the donation to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.

For those of you unfamiliar with a Calcutta tournament, It is essentially played as a series of cut-throat squash games. To help keep play fair and competitive, handicaps are assigned based on skill level. This means stronger players may start with fewer points, while newer or lower-level players receive extra points. For example, if Player A is a much stronger player than Player B, Player B will begin the match already at 3 points, and Player A would begin the match at -3 points, first to 15 points wins. Each individual cut-throat game earns players a score, and those scores are added together across all games played during the event. At the end of the tournament, the player with the highest total cumulative score is the overall winner.

Registration cost: There is a $5 registration fee. Register at the link in our bio and please e-transfer your $5 to [email protected] with the e-transfer password DSCsquash2026. If we do not receive your e-transfer by the registration deadline we will remove you from the entrance list

That’s a wrap for the 2026 Dalhousie Open🎉!! Thank you to the players for playing some great games of squash and everyone that came out to support. And a big thank you to all of our volunteers who made this weekend such a success. We hope to see you all again next year!

Get ready to play in the Annual Dal Open! The tournament takes place Jan 29th - Feb 1st at Dalplex. Registration closes this Wednesday January 21st at 2PM. You can find the registration link in our bio.

The tournament starts on Thursday January 29th at 5pm for local players, and Friday January 30th at 5pm for out of town players and runs all weekend. Tournament Division finals play out Sunday afternoon February 1st. The tournament will have All Mixed, Women's and Junior's divisions that are formed based on Clublocker player rankings. 2 matches are guaranteed!

The tournament will provide a souvenir, pizza lunch thursday and Friday, coffee and snacks weekend mornings, and lunch weekend afternoons.

And join us for some great food and chit chat at the Saturday night Social (more information to come).

The DSC will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Emily Byron at Quinn's Arm Pub (6285 Quinpool Rd, Halifax, NS B3L 1A4) at 6pm to 8pm on January 25th.

The event will be a space for DSC and SNS members to come together and show support and love for the community in grieving Emily's passing. Attendees are encouraged to share stories and memories of Emily while taking time to connect with the community. There will be a slide show playing with photos of Emily. Anyone can submit photos to be displayed in this slide show. The link to submit photos will be in our bio. There will be a small set of speeches at approximately 7-7:30pm.

On Jan 25th there will be a memorial plaque installed in the court area of the Dalplex. Anytime on Jan 25th only, NON-DALPLEX MEMBERS can come into the Dalplex free of charge in order to see the plaque if you RSVP to the Celebration of Life. The link to RSVP will be in our bio.

Hello DSC squashers!

With the Fall semester now over, our drop-in nights are now on a break until Jan 8th when the Winter semester begins.

Drop-In courts are still available for you all to play on (Except court 4, which is only booked for the first hour of Sunday and Thursday drop-in) during drop-in times during the holiday break.

However, Drop-In reps may not be present and therefore the locker with the rackets for borrow may also not be available. If you are in need of a racket, the Dalplex still offers rackets for borrow as well.

Refereeing a game of squash can sometimes be hard if you dont understand interference and referee decisions. So come learn how make the right call at our Squash Referee Rules Clinic!!! The clinic will be hosted on Sunday November 30th at 3 to 4pm in room 15 in the Wallace McCain Learning Commons. Sign up through the link in oir bio.

Looking to have some squash holiday fun? SMUfit is hosting a Christmas Calcutta Saturday December 6th 12:30pm to 4:30pm. The tournament is cutthroat style with starting scores being based off of your clublocker ranking. For an entrance fee of $80 you get a welcome tote bag, free lunch, a guaranteed prize (including a chance to win a free SMUfit membership), and most importantly 4 hrs of squash!! Your fee also goes towards sponsoring a family during the holidays! There will also be a catered dinner after the tournament.
