Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji Gatka Akhara Damdami Taksal [Toronto]

Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji, Who began learning gatka at the age of 14 from the Gursikhs in his sangat. In his later teens, in the sangat of Baba Darshan Singh Ji (Takki wale), he did seva in Sri Akhand Paaths and Keertans. Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji’s gatka skills were unmatched, for he won first place in many international gatka competitions. Almost all the akharas in Asia know of Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji, By the divine Will of the Guru. Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji became the “Ustaad” of the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji Gatka Akhara at Gurdwara Gurdarshan Parkash, Damdami Taksal, Mehta, in 2002, under the guidance of Sachkhand Vasi Sant Baba Thankur Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale.

Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji went on a tour to preach the Sikh martial arts internationally, He began in Toronto, at Sri Guru Singh Sabha (Malton) where he helped Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara Damdami Taksal (Toronto) grow. Ustaad Charnjit Singh Ji was then called upon to do seva in Surrey B.C, to teach the kids at Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji Gatka Akhara Damdami Taksal (Surrey) At Guru Nanak Academy the art of Gatka, and developed some of the greatest gatka fighters in the country. At the age of 23, Bhai Sahib left our maya-filled world, and returned home, to Sachkahnd.

Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji returned to Sachkhand on May 7th 2004. Both Branches of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara cannot forget the Knowledge, Wisdom, and Love he showed all the Students, Volunteers, And Parents. Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji always loved kids. Members of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara Damdami Taksal used to remember times when they would go for walks with Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji into the parks, and Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji would randomly go start playing with any of the kids. His love for children, his love for games/sports/gatka, his love for sikhi, and his love for Guru Sahib were unparalleled.

Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji always dreamed of having gatka become an olympic sport, and was extremely passionate about gatka, having won international tournaments when he was still residing in India. Bhai Charnjit Singh was a Child among Children, an Adult among Adults, and a Saint among Saints. For all of us who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji, we know that his legacy of seva, and spreading Sikhi around the world, will never be forgotten.

Today we will witness the students of Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji demonstrate Gatka From Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara Damdami Taksal (Toronto) at Malton Nagar Kirtan. A special benti to all the students of Ustaad Bhai Charanjit Singh Ji in the Toronto area to come out in the memory of Ustaad Ji and show the sangat their skills and values that Ustaad Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji instilled in the Akhara.

Karajkaree Mukhi, Raab Da Roop, Naam Bani De Rasiye Sant Baba Thakur Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale Baba Ji never separated themself from the recitation of Gurbani as the recitation of Gurbani was kept continuous in the presence of Baba Ji. They used to talk very little with others. Sevadars would recite Gurbani all day and night in accordance to Baba Ji’s wishes. Even at night when Baba Ji used to sleep, which was never more than a couple of hours, the recitation of Gurbani continued. During Baba Ji’s life their daily Nitnem changed, but as a basic guide – they used to recite the whole of the Panj Granthi and then spend the rest of the day doing J*p Ji Sahib, Sukhmani Sahib or Chaupai Sahib recitals. If they were not listening or reciting Gurbani, they would be either listening to Kirtan from Harmander Sahib on TV or listening to Katha, these were the 3 basic ingredients of their daily lifestyle. Baba Ji restarted the great tradition of Sarbat Khalsa and they performed the reconstruction of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib with much physical fervour, and many other Gurdwaras have been built and are being built/renovated. Baba Ji held the Panth together in a time of great pain for the Panth as they whole-heartedly provided care for the families of many Shaheed’s. Baba Ji was a Puran Brahmgyani of very few words, but they did state several times that Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Ji is not a Shaheed and will return in due time to guide the Khalsa Panth once more. Baba Ji also said that people think that they are an old man that is lying, but when Sant Ji returns then everyone will remember that Thakur Singh was telling the truth. Those fortunate to have met Baba Ji, will speak of the light of love shining from them and will know that they have had the Darshan of one of the greatest Mahapurkhs of the Khalsa Panth.
