🚧STARTING THIS THURSDAY NIGHT RHVP CLOSURE THROUGH THE WEEKEND - PLAN AHEAD! 🚧

If you frequent Red Hill Valley Parkway, take note that the RHVP will be CLOSED in both directions between Mud Street and Barton Street, weather permitting.

📅 Thursday, September 17 at 10 p.m. to Monday, September 21 at 5 a.m.

DESCRIPTION: Crews will be taking advantage of the full weekend to complete multiple rehabilitation and maintenance projects at the same time. The goal is to improve the safety and condition of the Parkway while avoiding additional closures down the road.

🔨 Work will include:

-Removing portions of the existing road surface
-Adjusting the roadway slope with new asphalt layers
-Paving a new asphalt surface
-Upgrading and adjusting guiderails
-Adjusting the overhead sign support structure
-General infrastructure maintenance along the Parkway

The main rehabilitation work will take place between the King Street and Greenhill Avenue interchanges.

🚗 Bottom line: If you normally use the RHVP, give yourself extra time as alternate routes may also be more heavily traveled. A little planning ahead can save you a LOT of frustration!

We owe so much to our Canadian Veterans, whose sacrifices in many instances become multi-generational. On September 26th, you have the chance to say "thank you" with authenticity!

Hamilton's Canadian Walk for Veterans is an opportunity to gather, support, and raise awareness about the issues our veterans face in our city. Sadly, many face challenges like homelessness, job loss, food insecurity and more.

This walk helps raise funds for the True Patriot Love Foundation, a worthwhile cause where part of the funds raised is directly streamed to locally approved veteran initiatives.

An event like this one not only raises desperately needed funds in support of Hamiltonian veteran daily living. It's also a symbolic opportunity to meaningfully and tangibly recognize Canadian veteran service in pursuit of our freedom and our country.

It was wonderful to join MPP Monica Ciriello at her community BBQ yesterday! ☀️🍔

A great afternoon bringing leaders, Mountain neighbours, friends, and community members together for good food, conversation and plenty of summer spirit. Events like these are a wonderful reminder of the strength and warmth of our Hamilton community.

Observed the second Sunday of each September, this special day allows us to honour the love, wisdom, care, and mentoring that grandparents offer to the lives of their families' young.

Grandparents are nimble - they adapt to the many roles asked of them. Their arms: safe harbour. Their example: a priceless education in ethics and character.

Whether grandparents live with their grandchildren and love them on a daily basis, or show their love via phone calls, letters, packages, e-messages, elders offer priceless gifts to the young that words cannot describe, and which a child's heart remembers with growing fondness with the passage of time.

I still remember my own grandparents vividly and appreciate more each year the lessons I learned from them. And now, as a grandmother today, I hope to be all I can for my own grandchildren!

To all who are grandparents: may you feel loved and celebrated in every way today!! And if you're a young person with a grandparent you can call or hug, reach out to them with love and appreciation on this national day that honours them.❤️

September 11 is a date Canadians remember vividly, as one of the darkest days in American history.

We remember, too, how Canadians responded without hesitation. In a time of unimaginable uncertainty and grief, neighbours helped neighbours and friends helped friends.

Twenty-five years later, we remember with deep sadness the lives tragically lost that morning and honour the courage of all those who responded - with compassion, courage, and humanity. #911

Sometimes, taking the next step is the hardest part.

For Gord and me, those next steps will add up to 72 km over two days as we take on The Long Walk Home on October 1 and 2, 2026.

We know that 72 km is a significant challenge. But for many men in our community, the challenges they face every day can feel much bigger — especially when they're trying to find stability, hope, and a way forward.

That’s why this walk matters so deeply to us.

We’re proud to be supporting the YMCA Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford and the important work they do for men in our community. Through the Men’s Residence, the YMCA partners with St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton to give residents access to an addiction worker and a mental health care worker. Along with intensive case management, this support helps people work through challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, addiction, and so much more.

No one should have to navigate those challenges alone.

So, as we train and prepare to put 72 km behind us, we’re thinking about the men who are taking their own difficult steps toward a better future.

Council began with pure celebration and joy this morning, as we honoured our young Hamilton athletes with plaques of recognition for their participation in this year’s International Children’s Games in Hualien, Taiwan.

We also celebrated the victorious bid to host the 2028 games here in , July 3-8.

Sport Canada estimates these games will offer $9.3 million in local economic impact with Tourism Hamilton Development Corp. projecting $5.6 million in tourism related benefits. 🎉
